Blackberry - Pearl Smartphone Cell Phone —

I must admit I love the technology of my Blackberry Pearl, although I resisted it at first.  It was a gift from my husband, and so I was forced to give up my old, reliable mobile phone, something I would not have done on my own.  After setting up the Pearl, I learned how much I love getting email anytime, and how often I use the Pearl to keep connected to the tons of things I have going on in my life at one time. I am able to access maps and directions when I am on the road.  I can synch up my calendars and notes with my computer (not done often enough) but still available to keep everything in one place and organized.  I also love its size--even though it does not have a full keyboard, and I must rely on a multi-tap method for typing texts and emails-- I am just more connected, and anyone used to a phone keyboard will have no problem adapting to the Pearl. It doesnt' hurt that a lot of folks who own clunkier Blackberries often remark how cool and tiny it is for a Blackberry. "Is it really a Blackberry???"  That question makes me feel cutting-edge cool too!

There are plenty of cons with the Pearl. If you are not very savvy with computers, setting it up to receive email may take some time and patience, but that is true of any Blackberry upgrade from a phone.  It is buggy though, sometimes I get an SOS sign or it starts to multi-select emails that I don't want to select.  This means I have to remove the battery and put it back in, but, once again, my colleagues tell me they have to do similar tricks for their Blackberries too, so it's not a Pearl issue.

What is a Pearl iss ue is that it is extremely sensitive to droppage and getting wet, I mean with just one little tinsy-winsy droplet of rain.  I've had to replace mine twice, and there is no warranty, because obviously, RIM knows the things are going to break. So, get a SKIN for it when and if you purchase it: Since I've invested in getting a few SKINs, I haven't had to replace my Pearl again.

The last time I replaced my silver Pearl for a red one, there was supposedly a $100 rebate, which I have get to get from Blackberry/AT&T, despite filling in the TONs of paperwork and receipts that you have to send in.  I am too busy to chase down the $100 that I am sure I was qualified to receive, and one of those companies do still owe me that money!  Every once in a while, I get peeved when I think about that.  I mean whose to stop these companies from making you REALLY have to work for that rebate???  I think they hope you forget or are too busy, just like me.

In summary, I am happy with the technology offered in my Blackberry Pearl.  Its a really cool gadget with some kinks, and a lot of service issues.  For staying connected, you don't have a lot of choices for different companies out there, unfortunately, but this product will keep you connected and will make you look cool.
