Blackberry - Curve 8310 Cell Phone —

As a first-time BlackBerry owner I can say that I am absolutely enamored with this phone. Let me just say the phone is more or less worthless until you add some memory, but after installing a 2 GB micro SD card it is the most powerful little PDA I have ever used (my last PDA was a Casio 7 years ago and did not support voice calls). Going from a flip to a PDA phone took a little getting used to, but the ability to text and email with a full QWERTY keyboard and bigger screen are well worth the trade-off. And being able to ditch my separate PDA device has been great, 1 less gadget to carry. You can setup several POP email accounts on the Curve, though I have found it most useful just for keeping up with work email when out of office. My Curve has great sound quality for calls, and T-Mobile has always been a reliable carrier for me. I pair my Curve with a Cardo S-800 Bluetooth earpiece, it recognized the names in my address book right away for voice commands without any further training or programming. The Curve also supports Bluetooth A2DP profile (stereo music), I use it with a Motorola S-9 headset when I go to the gym. Not being "tethered" to your music device while working-out is awesome, plus it automatically mutes the music whenever you get an in-bound call. The camera is more than sufficient for average use as well. The pix get a little washed out in bright light, but otherwise have good resolution for being 640x480. My only 2 complaints with my Curve are that I tend to worry about scratching the display, that is one feature a flip will always be better for, but the phone is slim and light enough to easily fit in a shirt or front jacket pocket virtually unnoticed. I keep it in its supplied leather pouch, which is a bit of a nuisance when you want to use the phone because you have to do something with the pouch, but otherwise I have not had any mishaps in the 3 months I've had the phone. The other thing that is a little annoying is that the music player only supports "true random" shuffle play. I have about 200 songs on it right now, but even then it will sometimes repeat the same song twice within a few minutes. It would be nice if RIM had included a tagging feature that would prevent a song from shuffling twice within the same listening session, a couple lines of code probably would have solved the annoyance. The one benefit of being with T-Mobile is that the Curve supports their "Hot Spots", both for web browsing and phone calls. When you make or receive a call through any Wi-Fi hot spot your talk time does not count against your plan minutes. I have a wireless router at home and access to one at work, which means a lot of my calls are "free". Consequently I get by with only a 500 minute plan from T-Mobile, which even with the data pack makes my monthly bill usually only about $75. The other really nice feature I am already addicted to is the mapping software. You can get as detailed of a map as you want for practically any address, which is very handy when you're going somewhere and just need a quick map to know your street turns ahead of time.
