Blackberry 8830 World Phone —

I love my Blackberry 8830 and would not buy another phone on the market.  That said, I still have plenty to complain about.  First, the multimedia access is severely lacking.  Yes, you can play MP3s...but has anyone at RIM seen a real MP3 player lately.  I don't expect it to be an iPod, but maybe a Zune?  Plus, for me the MP3 player chews through the battery such that I can't use it and get a full day out of the thing.

Second, having the web browser is great, but after having played with an iPhone its just not good enough.

Third, with the high price on the BBs, where is the camera?  I mean, I have a micro-SD slot to save pictures to a micro-SD card, but no camera to take pictures.  I did not realize how much I would miss my camera phone until I had this phone.  Sure, I probably only snapped a picture every 2 months or so, but thats 6 pictures a year I am losing of my young child.

Finally, SMS messaging is very annoying with the blackberry.  I use this for business and personal use...and SMS messages flow right in there with all my work email.  After one month, I finally figured out that you can have a different notification for SMS than your email, but its still in the sea of email with a different shaped envelope as the only thing distinguishing it.  I miss, on average, 50% of my SMS messages.  That is quite annoying considering Sprint charges me for SMS messages on top of the expensive blackberry access.

As I said in the beginning, I wouldn't buy another phone on the market.  Find me a phone that fixes these problems, and I am no longer a BB 8830 user.

In response to PattyTherre's comment from Mar 8, 2008 at 1:43PM:

The email access is top notch. The ability to quickly read and scroll through pages of email is unmatched anywhere.

The keyboard is nice. the tactile feedback works well even for someone with big hands such as myself.

The battery usage is great, it doesn't chew up the battery too bad considering all of the function.

I like having the GPS on the device and use Google Maps with GPS support regularly to look up places when walking or riding in the car and get reviews on local restaurants and whatnot. If Viewpoints just had such a blackberry application ;-)

What are the good points of this phone? So far it doesn't seem like a great choice although you must love it for a reason. The iPhone is really cool but too complicated for me. I still can't work my Verizon Chocolate! lol.
