Very HAndy

This phone was my second phone here in the US and it was very handy and very cute blackberry phone. It is not a touch screen phone but it is as good as the touch screen ones. Battery life was excellent, it last longer than any touch screen phones. The screen was good enough, not too big nor too small and the quality of the voice is also good. All in all it was a very phone for me,very safe too,I am the kind of person don't put screen lock in my phone,so this flip phone was heaven for me,because it won't redial numbers,it won't just go to any applications like the touch screen ones, lol but now as time goes by,I learned how to put screen locks already.

Mmmmm....not so much!

I've had my Blackberry 8220 Pearl Flip for almost two years now and I really have had a lot of problems with it. It looked really good and stylish in the store and I wanted a flip so I wouldn't have to worry about it while in my purse (like dialing someone because the buttons got pushed accidentally) However, it was such a bear to figure out after using a Motorola Razr phone that was so easy to use! The keyboard is crazy wierd and texting can be a challenge! The camera is cool but not always great, Downloads take forever so I just end up closing the phone and waiting until I can send/receive something on my Laptop instead. The Network indicator lights up green and flashes constantly, I have to put my phone in the case and put it in my purse at night when I sleep unless I want to see a bright green flashing light all night! And the battery life is short lived...I can't wait for my Birthday to get a really cool smart phone...like an Android HTC or even another Blackberry only this time I want the BB Bold!! (Then I can give my Pearl to my boyfriend!!)

Beautiful Phone, Great Capabilities

4

Having to choose between a flip phone or a blackberry is difficult for many people, but thanks to the Blackberry 8220 Flip that is no longer an issue.  You do not have to use your bluetooth headset with this phone, as it is as portable and easy to hold as most other flip phones.  The sleekness of the phone makes it comfortable to rest on your shoulder if you have your hands full while conversing.  The color phone I purchased is deep red which is very nice.  It is especially great for people who lose their phones often... it really stands out. The great capabilities of the phone:  You can set it to automatically connect to WiFi, so even if you do not want to purchase the media package you are still able to connect to your email, check websites, etc. if you are in a WiFi zone.  You can actually improt Excel, Word and PowerPoint files onto this phone and edit them in software included with this phone.  The camera has a built-in flash.  You can choose background images from your own and even use only part of a picture without having to crop it.  The mouse ball is easy to use and lights up for ease of using it in the dark. The not-so-good things about this phone:  Updates take a very long time.  During these updates you cannot do anything on the phone.  Even if you wanted to dial '911' you couldn't!  The load time for pictures is very slow, and seems to load your whole album before letting you select an image to view.  Dialing phone numbers is rediculously slow, and if you type them to fast it skips (this does not happen during texting). I am very satisfied with my phone, and when I called to ask a question about some features Blackberry's staff was kind and eager to help me.  I love this phone and the service.

The blackberry pearl is mediocre at best

2

This is the 2nd Blackberry Pearl I've had and I'm really not that impressed.  First I'll talk about what I do like.  I like the size of it because it fits in my pocket easily.  I also like the flip because I can talk into something, which I like.  Also when its in my pocket or purse, the buttons don't get pressed like on my other blackberry (which would dial 911 even when locked).  I like the clock on the front, but it doesn't stay on because it wears down the battery.  I do like that the front screen shows who calls and shows the texts as they come in.  However, I don't like how slow the buttons work.  Every time I try to call someone, its delayed and by then I've already pushed more buttons then I have to start over.  Also, the pearl isn't very accurate either.  The pearl is either slow and delayed or speeds up past the option I wanted.  Overall, I wish I bought the more user-friendly, fun iphone.

Nice flip design

I've always liked flip phones and was excited to see Blackberry with one. I have to say that it was tough to get used to using a Blackberry. Assigning ringtones were difficult. I ended up going on the internet to figure out how to do it. For those that like a smaller phone, this phone will do the job.The camera is not the greatest and can't recommend taking pictures with it. I've enjoyed it and would recommend it to someone who would like a phone like this.

Very disapplointed with my first blackberry

1

Pros: quad-band global phone if you travel a lot. High resolution screen. Cons: keys are unpredictably laggy. Software is not user friendly. You have to press half a dozen times to get the timer/alarm set. Screen freezes during cold winter time. Battery only lasts for one day after a little over 1-year very light use. I have to carry the charger everywhere I go. This is my first blackberry and also the last one.

The blackberry flip is not a very good device.

2

At first glance, it may look quite good. It looks nice, it's flippable, it has an external screen for quick viewing of things, and it's by blackberry. Well, I enjoyed the device for quite a while, but it was my second phone, keep that it mind. The blackberry flip may seem like a step back, but it's more of a neutral step, as it's for people who like blackberry products but don't like that it is like a one part rectangle. One very bad part about this product is that it is slow. I don't think I'm the only one who has had this problem. It is quite slow. Even when clearing it of most things, it still can be slow. It may take a second before a selection is made. Loading the menu buttons is kind of slow. I've gotten so used to expecting the slowness, that I have taken it into factor, so when using fast things, it seems like time is moving forward faster than it should be. I don't suggest buying it.

The Blackberry RIM Pearl 8220 is not worth the money!

2

If I had the money to get a new phone--I wouldn't hesitate! Why?1. It didn't take long for the face of the phone to stop working. I don't see a thing if I don't flip the cover!2. The icons are confusing and sometime disappear for apparently no reason. My husband and I have the same exact phone, and our icons suddenly become different.3. The battery life is not what I need. I feel like I am always having to charge the phone.4. The camera doesn't take high quality pictures.5. Not a fan of the scroll bar, although I did learn to use it. In short, there are a few things I like about the phone, but overall, I feel like I paid a lot of money for little quality.

I've had better than the Blackberry Pearl cell phone

2

The Blackberry Pearl seemed promisin.  It had a lot of features, and it was a flip, which I like.  Turned out to be fairly dissipointing. 1. The colors are all masculine, I couldn't get a hold of anything I liked.  The red was the best of the options, and I never liked it. 2. The way the phone is designed, my jaw would CONSTANTY hang up my calls.  I have a perfectly normal jaw, this was so annoying to me and the people I called!  I don't care how cool they think the design looks, it make it way to easy to accidently hang up calls. 3. It kept doing weird things like going back and forth between text modes randomly, or showing random "m"s throughout my contacts.  I can't figure out how to turn off the alarm after it's been snoozed, grr! 4. Even the features, when working, were less than impressive.  The calendar didn't really suit my needs (there's no way to differenciate different types of days--say, a birthday or a mere appointment), and there are glitches, like when you want to enter something in the phone number line of a contact, it starts typing as letters until you alternate it, which is annoyingly inconvinient.  Everything from the clock to the fonts were, again, way too masculine for my taste--not in an interesting urban way, but just blah.  Never liked they way anything looked. I didn't mind the ball, but that's about it!  Don't get this phone!

Blackberry Pearl, nothing but trouble...

2

We bought my husband a Blackberry Pearl Flip phone in August of 2009.  He is a heavy text user and most often keeps his phone in his pocket, but is not particularly hard on his phones. We bought the Pearl in order for him to have a flip phone that he could load customizable ringtones on.  He is not a data user and does not E-mail or browse on his phone.  I recommended the Blackberry Pearl Flip after having a Blackberry Pearl 8120 phone for over 3 years and loving it.  He has unfortunately had nothing but problems with it.  The clock appeared upside down on the front screen, his phone often shut off for no reason, had issues with receiving texts and/or voicemails hours and sometimes days after they were sent (and yes he does almost always remember to turn his phone off and on every night to reset the tower connection).  He finally had to do an exchange because all of the buttons on the keypad just quit working altogether.   **Pros - ** - Able to utilize UMA calling (voice calls over Wi-Fi network). - Downloadable games work well. - Can load and set custom ringtones (from mp3 files). - Picture messaging works well.    **Cons- ** - Delayed message delivery. - Random shut offs. - Keys stick to the point of being unusable.  - Camera is poor quality. - Drops calls (could be network issue?). - Trackball sticks.
