Sears Grand on Christmas Eve was a stop for curiousity sake for us. Have no one to shop for so we look for deals for us for items we need. My Hamilton Beach Brewstation blew up, so we needed a coffeemaker & not many are available on this day. So we walk back to small appliances & on display is the Black & Decker DE755, with the neat silver nameplate in front & handle to open the top to filter & adding water. It is $19.99 so we bought it.
Fill the 12 cups of water, 3 scoops of Maxwell House arabica coffee & set the timer to 5AM. Next morning we awake to fresh brewing coffee fragrance so we knew it was working. Get cups poured but we are eating our coffee. The pot is loaded with beans as is our cups. So we dump it & try again. The dripless pour is great to sneak a cup while it is brewing. Also may I remind you to push the program button to put a red dot next to the time so you know the brew time is programmed.
The gold filter included & advertised on the box, has a solid bottom of plastic. The sides are 2" of gold mesh. The coffee is in it, the coffeemaker sprays like a shower all over the beans, but it doesn't flow through the bottom into the pot. It is actually flowing up & over spilling water into the pot with the beans which are all over the lid, the sides of the burner & in the coffee made. Hardly any in the filter.
I phone Black & Decker about it & am told that I am to phone the new company that sells their household appliances. FOX INTERNATIONAL aka Applica Appliances. I called to tell them of their lousy filter & that I bought a 12 cup Gold Filter for $18 at Giant Eagle & it is making perfect coffee. They tell me to return it to Sears & buy another coffeemaker. Very uncaring, very stuffy, just lousy customer service. So I phone Black & Decker again to tell them what I had just went through & I am apologized & told they have a partnersip with Applica to handle housewares. I asked why? They are tools & hardware as their main product, housewares they still make but do not sell. They just bought De Walt, another tool manufacturer, so that has increased their production by 200%.
So the agent call Applica for me since the way they handled the problem call was not professional & he requested a new coffeemaker of a better design to be sent to me.
