If you have known me for some time, you know two things about me.  1.  I'm not a morning person.  2.  I drink several cups of coffee throughout the day and if I don't get my coffee--I'm not a happy person!

Now that we have moved to Mississippi and have at least an hour drive into work each day, I not only have to get up at 5 am, but I need coffee to sip on during our drive into Louisiana for work.  We have had some unusually cold weather here for this time of the year and I am finding myself having to adjust to a lot of things at once.  This past weekend, I decided that I was giving up the beloved drip coffeepot and bought a new Black & Decker 12 Cup Programmable Coffeemaker.  Now all I have to do is get out of bed and head to the kitchen and pour my first cup of coffee.  Now that's convenience!

Black & Decker 12 Cup Programmable Coffeemaker

I looked at several different models of coffeemakers and compared them before making my decision to buy the Black & Decker 12 Cup Programmable Coffeemaker.  My first requirement was that the coffeemaker was programmable so that we could set it the night before for our wake up time.  The second requirement was that the coffeemaker made 12 cups of coffee.  There were several models that made a maximum of only 10 cups of coffee.  Since both my husband and I have a cup of coffee before we leave the house and both fill large coffee mugs to take with us, we needed a coffeemaker that would serve 12 cups of coffee.  Believe it or not, we usually drink 12 cups on the weekend also.  I am a total coffee addict!

The last requirement was that the coffeemaker was durable and built to last.  I didn't want a coffeemaker with a thin carafe or one with flimsy plastic parts.  The Black & Decker 12 Cup Programmable Coffeemaker seems to fit that requirement also.

Features

The main feature that I needed was to be able to program the coffeemaker to brew coffee for 5 am.  We are on a very tight schedule in the mornings and don't have time to waste.  I have to be at work for 7:30 am, which means we have to be on the road for 6:00 am.  It is important to have that first cup of coffee ready and waiting for me when I wake up.  This jump starts my day.

The Black & Decker 12 Cup Programmable Coffeemaker also has a "sneak a cup" feature.  This means that you can pour a cup of coffee before the pot has brewed all 12 cups.  If you remove the carafe from the burner, the coffeemaker will stop the flow of coffee going into the pot.  This feature assures you that there will be no messes to clean up or chances that you will get burned.

The filter basket is removable for easy clean up and can also be placed in the top rack of your dishwasher.   The carafe is made of glass and is best washed out by hand, but you could put it in the dishwasher if you wanted to.

Programming the Coffeemaker

The display on the coffeemaker has several buttons.  They are as follows:  Program, Hour, Minute, On, Off, Automatic, and Power.

Final Word

This is an awesome coffeemaker.  We have been using it for several weeks now and have not had any problems with it.  The coffee is always ready when we get up in the morning.  On weekends I can brew the coffee when I get up, but overall the Black & Decker Programmable 12 Cup Coffeemaker is a winner and a big hit at my house.

I'm not a coffee person but I may drink a cup every 3-4 months. Mostly just to try out a new Cremora flavor. I think my office has something similar to this. Sounds like a good product and I'm glad you found something you like. My Daddy drinks coffee like you do. Hmmm...I should put that on a list of things to buy him--next occasion, his birthday in May ;+) ~Gigi

In response to LoveisJoy's comment from Nov 19, 2008 at 1:31PM:

You can brew up to 12 cups, which comes in handy when you have company over!

I think the programmable coffee maker is one of the most underappreciated inventions. 12 cups is more capacity than I'll ever use, but it sure comes in handy for many people. :)
