I've owned this can opener for 7yrs almsot 8 yrs now and its a wonderful product.  The door stays shut and I have never had to replace the batteries as of yet.  I've never had any problems with it.  The door flips back far enough so that if the can does spill it happens on the counter.  Easy enough to clean up and it still looks brand new!!
