Does Not Hold A Charge

I keep it plugged in when not in use and when I go to use it there is no power after only 10 seconds. Worthless device!

This vacuum can hold a charge

4

I used the Black & Decker Pivot Vac for couple of days when I was house sitting. The first thing that I noticed about this device is that it is shaped like an old school gym teacher whistle. When I turned on the vacuum I was surprised by how quiet it was compared to similar products. This device did a great job of sucking up crumbs and derbis. I tried to clean the stairs with this vacuum, but the battery died. I let the vacuum recharge for about 8 hours before I attempted to do the stairs again. After charging the vacuum it did a great job of really getting into the creases and corners of each step. I was able to do the stairs before the Pivot started to slow down. This vacuum lasted about 15 minutes before it started to lose suction power and it came to a complete halt at the 20 minute mark. I would definitely recommend the Black & Decker Pivot Cordless Vac to anyone looking for a light and compact vacuum that will last long enough to do an adequate job of cleaning.

Quality Vacuum

4

I quite enjoy this vacuum! It's got more oomph than I thought a little vacuum could have. I use it in my car in the wintertime and it's the best thing ever. My father is very concerned about buying 'quality vacuums' that work ridiculously well and after much research, he added this one to our collection. I trust that since he picked this one out, it's the best option for the price and type. I'd especially recommend this to: * Those in cold climates (for vehicles) * Students in dorms/ small apartments * Those who hate having to wind up the push vacuum cord * Those who have stairs Maneuverability It's a hand held vacuum, it's only as maneuverable as you are. Ease of Maintenance The only maintenance for this vacuum is regular emptying and charging. I found that it stays charged for any of my vacuuming projects without problem. It's kind of gross to clean it, but that's not a problem for me. Suction Performance For a small vacuum, the suction performance is extraordinary. It's even better than the older large vacuum models. Design I find the colors to be a little unattractive. Durability I am not a clean girl and this vacuum has survived more than a year and a half (so far.)

great cordless portable vacuum cleaner

5

I've tried many portable vacuums, but usually they are either not strong enough or just didn't do it's job. This wonderful compact, portable, bagless and easy to use vacuum was strong, not too loud and fit in small hard to reach areas. I would charge it fully and vacuum our cars too. Great design and totally effective. I've a baby so I vacuum a lot sometimes several times a day since my baby girl makes a mess with crumbs. But also her daddy makes a mess too. That's why I always said I've a six foot tall big baby. I've used this vacuum for years and still works great. I got this from bed bath and beyond on sale along with a coupon too. I definitely love this amazing vacuum cleaner. I also love that it's cordless. Maneuverability Easy to move around without any trouble. Ease of Maintenance Simple dump out every use and recharge the vacuum in its vacuum charging dock. Suction Performance Pretty strong suction esp for a small vacuum. Design Great design.

Very happy with this item - I use it more than I even expected!

5

Very happy with this product! Easy to use in the house for almost anything. Since it is rechargeable and cordless, I've used it in the garage for easy clean ups ~ and also very easy to transport and use on the boat so we don't have to haul a big vac to clean up after we've been out on the lake with the kids for a long afternoon! After using my own (much more than I anticipated) I gave them for Christmas gifts to members of my family.

Black & Decker Cleans Up with a Great Cordless Vac

5

Black & Decker Cleans Up with a Great Cordless Vacuum! If you are in search of a new handy, portable and dependable cordless vacuum for those places or times when you just need something small and portable, then the Black & Decker Pivotable 18 Volt Cordless Pivoting Head Hand-held Vacuum should become a favorite tool for you and your house, office or car. Shopping around and trying some of the other manufacturers and models, I was amazed at some of the pieces that were out there. For example, have you see the Dyson handheld? i.e. look at it, pick it up, really look at it and imagine trying to use it around in tight places, it just doesn't compare. It's not the expected modern evolution of handheld vacume technology as compared to the longer-history Black and Decker brand unit. I was taken back by missing the trade-mark Black and Decker colors, but that was okay too. The unit is changeable for different needs, with the ability to change the angle of the intake nozzle to fit either the cleaning angle or the space you are working within. It also works rather well up-side-down, if you change your grip - besides on the side or the standard handhold. The unit isn't heavy like some of the other brands, yet doesn't feel cheaply made or like if you drop it you have to bu another. I have to say the biggest Con was not so much dislike, but as got moving and using it, then found spots where needed it, easy to use, and going, then ran out of power. However that's not fault of the unit engineering so much as the fact the handheld cordless vac is just easy and fun to use, not tiring on you hand or arm, and just enjoyed cleaning up and yes I enjoyed the new "toy" which didn't act like a toy. It's a true workhorse hidden in small package. Again try it, go where you can get you get your hands on one, and compare to others on the market - and you will see the difference, like the difference. I also like the fact it's a name brand I trust, which I've bought several other Black & Decker items many times over many many years. I expect this too will get good use, dependable performance, and probably be borrowed and I'll have to try hard to get it back (so hid that charger, so you do get it back when borrowers run out of juice!). Really worth the consideration and search - try it, I expect you will like it too!

Great Product For the Price

4

We recently purchased the Pivot Vac 18V after reading many opinions, including those here on Viewpoint. So far we haven't been disappointed at all. We purchased the Pivot mainly to clean up our toddler messes in our Toyota Highlander. Often we have been worried about the motor and longevity of Handheld vacs, but the Pivot so far has proved to be reliable and very durable. So far we've been able to use it almost 20 minutes straight on one charge, which is pretty good for a hand vac. It does have the added feature of being able to shift into several different positions, which is great for hard to reach spots and awkward areas in the car. The nose or beak has a little slide that extends from the base to clean in even tougher to reach areas, however we have found it difficult to insert it back into the nose after using. Hopefully that gets easier as the vacuum ages. The other gripe we have is the canister doesn't have a bag or filter or anything so it can be a bit messy cleaning it out after use. Overall though for the price and use we think this is a great little tool to have for toddler messes around the house, including the car.

Best handheld I could find

4

I checked out the Kone because it was sleek, but it blew dust and dirt around. This Black & Decker vac sucks up the dirt all right. It'll never be as powerful as a regular vacuum cleaner, but for portability, it's the best with its 18 volt power. I also had a Dirt Devil before this, and the Black & Decker is miles better because you're not attached to the wall. I'm able to vacuum the living room, a set of stairs, and one small bathroom before the battery needs to be recharged. I also like that it's bagless, so I don't have to worry about being caught without a refill. It didn't seem right to wash the inner filter under running water because it feels like thick paper, but I followed directions and it worked out just fine.

Black & Decker PHV1810 Cordless Hand Vac Is Good

4

I have had two versions of the Black & Decker PHV1810 Cordless Hand Vac, which I am used to calling a "dust buster."  Outside of one issue, described below, both my prior and current PHV1810 are excellent cordless hand vacs. The PHV1810 has 18 volts - it has great suction power.  It is good for picking up dirt (i.e., cleaning small rugs), picking up spills, getting up rock salt that has been tracked into the house, etc.  It is not appropriate for anything wet, though.  You can rotate the entire front nozzle to get the perfect angle to clean.  And, you can extend a small, narrow part of the nozzle a little bit to better get into cracks and crevasses.  Finally, there is a flip-up attached brush at the end of the nozzle.  This brush is new in the current PHV1810; it seems like a nice, new feature, but I cannot figure out what is supposed to be used for. Another change - in the prior PHV1810, you used to be able to turn the dust collection area, so the dust would be coming the filter in at a different place.  This helped if the dust collector was clogged, and it stopped dust that you just collected from falling out when you turned over the unit.  But, the current PHV1810 does not have this feature.  This may mean you have to empty the current PHV1810 more, although we have not had that problem yet.  And, you should be careful if you suck up a lot of dirt, turn off the machine, and then face it downward - some of the dirt will fall back out the nozzle.  To stop this, I keep it running for a few seconds to make sure all the dirt gets into the filter. The current PHV1810, like the prior one, is super easy to clean.  You just open the dust collector and dump out the dirt.  And, you can take out the filter and wash it with water.  There is no bag.  One improvement in the current PHV1810 is that the entire part of the machine that collects the dirt is detachable, so it is even easier to clean. The PHV1810 is cordless, but you (obviously) have to charge it.  You do this by plugging it into a cord which goes into the wall - unlike the prior PHV1810, there is no stand to put it in.  And, again unlike the prior PHV1810, the current one emits a blue light while charging.  I am not sure the purpose of the blue light - maybe to find it in the dark?  Since I do not expect to be cleaning things in the dark, I could do without the light. Lastly, the warranty is two years.  This is relevant, for me, because my prior PHV1810 started having a major problem after only eight months of use.  When we used the old machine, the motor would start smelling like it was burning.  Clearly something was wrong, and we were able to get a replacement (hence why we have the newer PHV1810) from our place of original purchase (Bed, Bath, and Beyond).  So, keep your receipt. Overall, I think the PHV1810 is an excellent cordless hand vac.  Because of my problem with my first PHV1810, though, I can only give this model four stars.  Hopefully the problem I had was either idiosyncratic to my unit or they have worked out any manufacturing/design issues.

The Black & Decker Pivot Vac Sucks, in a Good Way!

4

The Black & Decker Pivot Vac 18V Cordless Pivoting Hand Vac, PHV1810 Vacuum is the most powerful cordless handheld that I've ever used. After using only corded handhelds for many years I was hesitant to try "another" cordless vac that I was sure was destined to not live up to my expectations. Well the B&D PHV1810 far surpassed my expectations. I formerly worked for the company that was famous for the "bowling ball trick" and had always used the corded handheld which that company offered. The Black & Decker Pivot Vac far surpasses the quality and durability of the cordless vac from that same company too. The flexibility of the pivoting nose is perfect for getting into those hard to reach areas that full sized hand held vacuums have no chance of cleaning. The only negative thing that I can say about the Black & Decker Pivot Vac is that it's just a little bit noisier than other cordless hand held vacs. All in all a great value and a well engineered machine in my opinion. If you need a cordless handheld vacuum, this is the one to try.
