My experiences with Black & Decker have been far more positive...lucky me? I had a 12V Firestorm cordless drill outperform 3 Craftsman 18V drills...the only thing I ever needed for it was a second battery pack so that I could make quick-changes when I'd run out of juice.
The Craftsman drills, on the other hand, all developed VERY odd problems in the motor and died within two years each during the SAME PERIOD of TIME I owned the Firestorm. The Craftsman drills were all purchased by my employer, who sworre by Craftsman, but as they were breaking with regularity, I'd bring in my B&D and use it instead...eventually I used it only, even after he bought the third one...I just let the new guys use the Craftsman drills.
It would have been preferable if you had listed the model numbers of the items you had problems with...and maybe talked about the specific problems you had...the biggest problem with cordless drills tends to be under & over charging the batteries...proper cycling and total draining are KEY.
