Bistro Vendome - Denver, CO —

For Valentine's Day this year, I flew out to Denver, where my wife has been consulting for her firm. Not knowing how my flight would be or how late she might have to work, we didn't have any firm dinner plans on Valentine's Day. *gasp* We ended up getting a late start on the evening, so when we stopped in at Bistro Vendome they were booked solid and couldn't get us in. *sigh* Not willing to let a good opportunity pass by though, I made reservations for Saturday night. It turns out that Bistro Vendome is in high demand (www.opentable.com showed it as one of the 5 most booked restaurants in Denver).

Therefore on Saturday after having a few pre-dinner drinks across the street at Corridor 44 (see review here) we were finally off to Bistro Vendome. Located just off of Larimer square in downtown Denver, Bistro Vendome is accessed through an arcade and is situated on a small private square behind the main block. The restaurant has 4 main areas: the entrance, bar, main dining room and auxilary dining room. Upon walking in you notice a warm French bistro feel. The staff was very friendly and inviting, although they were running behind and couldn't seat us until about 5 or 10 minutes after our reservation time.

The food was excellent as well. Between the two of us we sampled the onion soup, steamed mussels, a scallop entree, steak frites. Complimenting this was an excellent bottle of wine from their extensive list. And we finished off with a selection of fresh sorbets, including passion fruit and blood orange flavors.  Everything was very well prepared and delightfully presented.

Bistro Vendome was expensive (appitizers, entrees, dessert, and wine). Our tab ran well over $100, but for a special treat it was worth it and the quality of the food and experience was excellent.

Your dog isn't allowed in Denver? Do tell!

Sounds nice. I really liked the sound of the sorbets and I love places with good wine lists. Unfortunately unless I'm in Denver on business I probably wouldn't go since I take my dog when I travel (AmStaff), and sadly, (well stupidly, but that's another story) he's not allowed there. But I'll still keep this on my list just in case. Great review, thanks for sharing.

Blood orange sorbet! Yum! Glad you two had a great time there. Sounds like a fantastic spot.
