Birdseye is at it again! They have created another great product that is heated in the microwave and is ready in 5 minutes. I love these vegetables. The corn is so sweet and yummy! There are many different kinds available-green beans, cauliflower, peas, broccoli, mixed vegies, corn, etc. There are also "supreme" brands that cost a little more, but they are also very good.
These vegies are on sale a lot at my local store and you can also get coupons in the Sunday paper. I just went on the Birdseye website and they have a $1 internet coupon you can print at home.
They are very easy to prepare, just place the unopened (don't poke it with a fork either!) frozen bag in your microwave and cook it for 5 minutes. This bag will be HOT and it is a little clumsy to try to open them without hurting yourself. That is the only problem I have found with these--so be careful! I pick the bag up at the corner and use scissors to cut the bag open and pour into a large bowl, keeping away from the steam.
Here is my very own recipe for a quick meal. My husband doesn't like
beans in chili so this is what I make and we both like it.
Mary's Steamfresh Chili
In a large frying pan:
1 pound ground meat (cook thoroughly and drain fat)
salt and pepper to taste
Add:
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 teaspoon minced garlic
Saute with the ground meat until tender, then
Add:
powdered chili flavoring mix (add to taste)
1 14.5 oz petite diced tomatoes and 1/3 can of water
1 package of Steamfresh mixed vegetables (I don't heat in microwave first.)
Heat this all in the same pan until the vegetables are heated through. I cover it with a lid for about 7-8 minutes over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally. I have served this over mashed potatoes or you can add some cooked pasta shells to the mixture. My husband really likes this meal and it is so easy to prepare.
If you try my recipe let me know how you like it. You can adjust the ingredients to your own taste preferences.
