Bio Spot Spot On Flea and Tick Control for Dogs —

I was asked by a freebies site to try Bio Spot for free in a 3 month trial. The ad claimed it was safe and easy to use and the name bio implies natural medicine. The first month I used it my dog seemed fine and he didn't have any fleas but the second month I applied it according to the directions and almost immediatly my dog began rolling on the floor crying and trying to rub it off. I bathed him right away but it didn't seem to help very much. His eyes began to itch and he started rubbing his face on the floor to stop the itching. I called my vet and he told me to give benedryll and that it should help but might take a couple of days. My poor baby had to take benedryll for 3 days before there was any relief at all. I typed Bio spot into a search engine and found that this is not an unusual reaction to the product and some poor animals were not as lucky as my  dog. The negative reviews I read seemed to apply  to smaller breeds and I have a mini dox. I am thinking  that as expensive as his front line was Its time to go back to it I can't put a price on his health and comfort

My vet said, "BioSpot is DANGEROUS!" i asked her why? (after having just commented to her that I was concerned about it having 43% permethrin in it -- and she said THAT was why! She also agreed with me, however, when I said I'd read online that a lot of fleas have built up a resistance to Frontline, and suggested I use Advantage... However Advantage makes no claims for anything other than fleas... BioSpot also controls ticks and mosquitos.

I'm NOT planning on going back to BioSpot, as our prior dog (a Shih Tzu) died of cancer at age 12 (young for her breed) and was on BioSpot most of her life (I suspect a link), but I'm not sure if Advantage, alone, will be enough, either.
