Most HelpfulFrom the very first showing, it caught my attention as being refreshing and worth watching again. In today's society, we have a tendency not to accept or even engage in understanding what makes other people happy. By showing another point of view of how a society can function, it really made me think we still have some pretty open-minded people left in this world. Not only did it bring to light a different way of living, but very cleverly and entertainingly put it out there as food for thought. I wish there was more like this out there.
I watched big love when HBO premiered the first episode back in 2006. I was immediately hooked and forced my husband to subscribe the the HBO service at least until the season was over.
Even if you don't agree with polygamy, you will be immediately hooked and drawn to these characters and the plot of the show. If the characters don't hook you, then the whole story of the compound, "Juniper Creek" will catch your attention and you will be horrified to catch a dramatic glimpse on how what old school polygamy is really like.
With a producer like Tom Hanks and a veteran actor like Bill Paxton -...
review »I am a member of the LDS church (mormon). I am quite upset with how this show is portraying that the LDS church is still practicing polygamy. I want to set the record straight by saying that the LDS church no longer, and has not allowed the practice of polygamy since the 1800's. Polygamy was only practiced for a relatively short period of time, and was allowed at that time to help women who were widowed from losing their husbands from the mob resistance that ended up driving mormons away from their homes in the midwest. The Mormon church has played a vital role in the westward expansion...
review »Bill Paxton plays Bill Hendrickson, a man with a lot on his plate. Three families to be exact. In addition to running his business and trying to outsmart a crazy prophet, Bill must be a devoted family man to each and every one of his three wives and the children he sired with each.
In addition, Bill must keep the outside world from discovering that he practices polygamy. The series shows the trials and tribulations of each of his families and how they try to reconcile their limited time with Bill. The wives alternate between being loving 'sisters' and firce rivals for Bill's time and affection.
this is the worst show i have seen in a long time but i can't stop
watching it all the characters are weird. why would one share a husband?
the kids are like the children of the corn
the husband is too preachy yet he is nailing everyone
my advise to the women RUN!
