According to theFree Dictionary by Farlex, the definition of "chick flick" is:

n.1.A sentimental motion picture that appeals particularly to women.

Well, in Big Fish (2003), Director, Tim Burton has created a "chick flick for guys".

I missed this movie when it was in the theater. It was probably good that I did.

But one night, a couple of years ago I was up in the middle of the night and happened to turn on HBO just as this movie was beginning. Two hours later not only was I still awake, but I had been reduced to tears.

Tim Burton is not known for producing tear jerkers or particularly optimistic...

I LOVED this movie the first time I saw it back in the theater in 2003.  I loved it so much that I asked for it for my next birthday.  After watching it again last night, I just have to tell you about it.

Big Fish is about a guy who tells fantastic stories... but according to him, all of his stories are true.  Ed Bloom spent his life telling amazing and unreal stories about his adventures and everyone loved his stories, except for his son, Will.  His son just wants to know who his father really is.  He's tired of all the stories and he feels dumb for believing them when he was a kid.  Will...

Tim Burton has done it again. Although, this film is a bit different from his others. Unlike the normal creepy atmosphere, this story is more 'realistic', In so many words. This 2003 movie, has to be my all-time favorite, by far. I'm a big Burton fan, and I can truly say that with this he has really outdone himself.
Edward Bloom, the main character, has led an incredible life. He's done courageous and outstanding things, from rescuing a cat from a burning house, to saving a little town from a hungry giant.
Now an old man, he tells anyone who'll listen the stories of his life....

I started out watching this movie in the theater thinking, "What the Hell?"  But, as the movie went on, things started to sort of come together, in a sense.  It wasn't until the very end that everything is crystal clear to you and it hits you like a rock!  It's a very good movie and I think that if anyone, particularly if you are a man with father issues; this may make you realize how important it is to make ammends no matter what.

Big Fish is an outstanding movie.  The movie is extremely thought provoking.  It invites the viewer to reevaluate values, perspectives, ideas, etc.  Striking cinematography makes for a very stunning movie.  It is a soul stirring, gripping, suspenseful, piece of art which makes for great entertainment.
