Back in January, I talked to someone that was going to a water park here in the frozen tundra. Sure, it was an indoor water park, but there are just some things that aren't meant to be enjoyed in the winter. Who wants to see anyone in a swim suit with Christmas fat and pale skin? The same can now be said about Big Brother. CBS recently launched a winter version of the show, obviously in lieu of other programming because of the writers' strike, but it's just not the same as what we look forward to as our summer's guilty pleasure.

Big Brother has always been a fun thing to watch in the summer, as there was nothing else on really. And when you really got into it, you could even get the live feeds through Real Player. Last summer, it seemed to be the best ever as Dick Donato and his daughter, Danielle, went on to the final 2. Some definitely enjoyable personalities were there, and a few irritating as well. But it was fun to watch the irritating ones, wondering what Amber was going to cry about next or what outlandish thing Jen was going to do next.

Yet, this winter season of Big Brother, they all seem to be irritating. With a show debuting the week of Valentine's Day, the producers made the theme and twist of the season "couples." Everyone is paired up with who the show is telling them is their perfect mate. Yet, the longer the season goes on, it seems they're just paired up in a way that will create the most drama. One girl is paired up with the only black male in the house, and her real life boyfriend, a racist, is in the house as well. This was done for drama, not because they were perfect mates!

Everyone is not only single, they're 20-something, except for a 45 year old woman who spent time in Penthouse and dated Scott Baio. She's a mom, yet they pair her up with a guy who insists on calling the disabled kids he works with "retards." One girl's dad hanged himself not too long ago, and as she struggles to get over that, her housemates make jokes about nooses. That is not enjoyable fun. And everyone is completely sex-crazed. They wait around for Showtime After Dark to start, then start having strip shows and near orgies in the pool.

It's probably not as much that it's not a winter type of show as much as the producers made a huge error in judgement with this cast. There aren't many likable people to root for. Considering the fact CBS stuck the show on the schedule on two of its nights against the ratings behemoth American Idol? With the writers' strike now over, they'd be wise to clean house quickly and get ready for the summer edition, but we probably won't be that lucky after everything that was invested in the show.

I've been watching Big Brother since Season 2, and I have to say that I somewhat agree with you. This is not the best season I've seen. I think each season gets worse....lol. I keep watching hoping that it will get better....there have been some good things though....I think....
