Betty Crocker's Best Bread Machine Cookbook —

I should start by saying that I am no baker!  I detest baking.  All the measuring of flour, sugar, baking powder and everything else drives me bonkers.  My passion is cooking.  I like to taste my food as I go and add things to make it better.  With baking, you don't know how it is going to turn out until it comes out of the oven.  That is why I love Betty Crocker's Best Bread Machine Cookbook - I know my loaf will turn out great!

This cookbook gives me recipes that turn out great every time - even though there is some measuring involved :)  One of the reasons why I love this cookbook is because they give you so many different types of recipes, suggestions and helpful tips.  Even a non-baker like myself can do this!

When I bake a loaf of bread in my bread machine, I am just like a little kid.  I am constantly peeking in the window to see what it is doing and wondering, "is it done yet?".  It is exciting to see the dough through all it's transitions.

The beginning of the cookbook includes a plethora of helpful advice.  There is a FAQ for loaves that didn't turn out right, definitions of terms used in cookbook and pictures of loaf maladies and how to fix them.

The Betty Crocker Best Bread Machine Cookbook is broken down to these categories with examples of each category listed:

  • Good and Savory Loaves (sourdough, cheese onion bread, toffee chip)
  • Wholesome Grain Loaves (honey whole wheat, oatmeal bread, cranberry corn)
  • Fruit and Veggie Harvest Loaves (orange applesauce bread, dried apricot bread, spinach cheese bread, potato tarragon)
  • Smaller Can Be Just Right (smaller sized loaves)
  • Rustic Loaves and Flatbreads (Challah bread, French baguettes, rosemary focaccia
  • Satisfying Rolls and Breadsticks (dinner rolls, bagels, cheese-filled breadsticks, sugared doughnuts)
  • Sweet Breads and Coffee Cakes (easy apple coffee cake, Swedish coffee ring, sweet bread wreath)

The Scoop!

With over 130 different recipes to choose from, there is definitely something for everyone.  Bakers and non-bakers alike, can use this cookbook easily.

I was saying it's a secret since I don't care for bread. It's the Sara Lee Blueberry Crumble--just put it in the toaster and add a little butter and you have yourself a tasty little snack ;+)

Do I know the variety of bread that is a secret? For some reason, I feel like I should know this but I don't :)

I don't eat bread that often but I heard that you can make peanut butter bread in the bread machine. If so, make me some of that or some cheese-filled breadsticks. I do have one variety of bread on my list to review. shh...it's a secret ;+)

I've been a big fan of B.C. cookbooks most of my life because they seem to be written for everyone, including people who might be novice cooks or just starting out. You've passed that stage a long time ago but I bet bread-making was really a new experience and you appreciated all the tips you could get. Great Review!
