Betty Crocker Chicken Helper - Chicken Fried Rice —

Chicken Helper looked good. I am fine with some of the Hamburger Helper mixes so thought this might be another option for those "I am tired" nights. And, maybe chicken would be healthier to boot - a bit anyway.

The Chicken Fried Rice by Betty Crocker is a quick mix or supposed to be. There are more steps, so it's not much quicker than cooking from scratch.

You cook the chicken part way after cutting up one inch pieces. OK. That's like browning the hamburger in a Hamburger Helper mix. Then add rice pack and seasonings. Same drill. On track. Cover and cook on low for 25 minutes. Fine. But, you do need to stir this more often for it to soak up the juice.

You have to cook Chicken Helper pretty dry, because you scoop the food to the side of the pan at the end and then scramble a couple of eggs. It does not specify whether to beat them up, but I think they would be fried eggs and not scrambled if just cracked in there beside the food. So, that's another bowl to wash and another step. Plus, the eggs did not add much to my way of thinking. Cooked to the side they are not yellow and eggy. They are kind of ick. Not awful. Not great either.

Once the last step with eggs (which I'll skip in the future) is done, stir and eat. So, it's pretty easy overall. The egg step is really the only extra part compared to Hamburger Helper.

On the taste, Chicken Helper Fried Rice was edible. It was not totally horrible. It was not very good either. Too sweet. They may be going for the kid audience, but my kid only ate one serving of it. That does not speak too well of Chicken Fried Rice by Betty Crocker.

I'm not going to bother to put Chicken Fried Rice in a Tupperware and hope it gets eaten. I'm sure it won't, so the dog gets what is left which is about half the pan. She'll probably like it as she is not one bit picky. She is always happy with people food except green Jell-O and spicy foods.

If you have a little chicken, make your own stir fry or put the chicken in the George Foreman grill and make chicken tacos or even chicken sandwiches. Both of those are faster and taste better.

Betty Crocker does have some very good products that are quick and easy. This one is not that quick and easy, and it is not really very yummy either.

The BC Chicken Fried Rice 'Helper' is a sometimes meal at our house, my daughter really likes it. We actually add 3 eggs instead of 2, and we also stir in a can of (no sodium) mixed vegetables and then remove from heat and let it sit covered for about 6 or 7 minutes (this heats up the veggies). My main complaint about any of the "Helpers' is the sodium content. They are an easy meal on a tired night.

I agree with everything you said, I tried making this yesterday and it really was pretty bad. I also felt like it was extremely salty. I liked the cheesy enchilada chicken helper MUCH better.

I think you prob do not want to tell the temp employee I gave mine to the dog (-: Teehee. Single guys will eat most anything too I've found. Bless them.

Great review, I felt the same way about it. Except I sent the leftovers to a temp employee that works with my husband and is single. I will stick to the Hamburger Helper in the future.

I haven't bothered with any of the Chicken Helpers since my hubby doesn't care for chicken much. He is so NOT a southern guy when it comes to chicken. lol

This does not sound good at all - with or without the egg. LOL
