Here are some movie that are sure to bring a tear or two or a whole flood to your eye. Powerful movies that will make even the most manly of men cry. No not Fried Green Tomatoes, or even Gone with the Wind.
5. Edward Scissorhands (1990) directed by Tim Burton)
A dark fairy tale about a lonely outsider who falls in love with a girl he cannot have. Johnny Depp imbues a rain forest of emotion in his mostly silent character, a mad scientist's creation an artist with scissors for hands left alone to fend for himself in a harsh cruel world.
4. The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964) (Les Parapluies de Cherbourg) directed by Jacques Demy
A love story that is told completely through song is what they call a three hanky film. It's about love and soulmates and how two beautiful people meet in France and fall in love and life is perfect-until he goes off to war, leaving behind his true love and the child he did not know he made. Years pass, they marry other people and then.... Well... you have to see this beautiful film.... Catherine Deneuve stars.
3. Grave of the Fireflies (Hotaru no haka) (1988) Directed by Isao Takahata
This is a sad tale of the last about a 12 year old boy and his little sister trying to survive in World War 2 Japan. It's one of the most powerful anime movies you will ever experience. A beautiful looking, very touching film.
2. Umberto D (1952) Directed by Vittorio DeSica
An old man and his devoted dog. We are in Italy and the country doesn't seem to care about its elderly unable to provide food and shelter for the elderly poor. Umberto would commit suicide and end his hard life, but he realizes he can not abandon his dog. A sad, touching very human movie.

1. Passion of Joan of Arc (1928) Directed by Carl Theodor Dreyer
Is one of the most intense films ever made, featuring one of the most celebrated and incredible film performances ever seen. The actress is Renee Maria Faconetti (her only screen performance). The film is told in facial close-ups. It's a silent movie but absolutely should not be missed. A masterpiece. One of the most powerful movies ever made .
1. Dancer in the Dark 2000 Directed by Lars von Trier
Bjork, Catherine Deneuve and David Morse star in this slow moving drama about a poor hard working factory worker who is losing her eye-sight and wants her son to have a better life. She'll be fired if she doesn't perform better but her neighbor creates problems and complications lead to an ending that is one of the most powerful and moving ever put on the screen.
