Most HelpfulThere's been a lot in the press, lately, about the increased acceptablility of haggling in the American retail sector. In the past, there were only two types of shopping in the USA where haggling was considered acceptable: car shopping and shopping for electronics. (I'm not counting thrift stores or...
review »Absolutely the WORST consumer transaction of my life! It happened 2 years ago, and I estimate it has cost Best Buy over $10,000 in business from myself, family, & friends. All because they wouldn't stand behind their product.
Long story short (if possible), I bought a 36" flat panel TV from Best Buy ($500 or so). Since it wouldn't fit in my car, I arranged to rent an SUV to get it home. I had one of my daughter's friends help me take it (and the TV stand I bought) upstairs to my apartment. Two days later, after I had the TV stand put together, I cut the box around the TV, lifted off the top, and...
review »Recently we went through a period of mourning-major appliances passing away...My grandmother always said that deaths came in threes when referring to celebrities, but I guess it is true for appliances as well. First was the clothes dryer, and we went out to purchase its replacement, and very shortly afterwards, while we were still paying for the dryer, both my fridge and my stove went the way of the rainbow bridge about a week apart. I shopped diligently both in person, and online for the best possible prices and the best possible financial arrangements for payment. Best Buy was it. I...
review »Went to Best Buy to purchase an amplified antenna for my tv with converter box as I was told of the selection they have. In spite of the fact there was 5 salespeople sitting around within the department, not one of them offered us help while we were searching for the antennas. When we finally did locate them a saleperson in the area was already helping someone. We waited a few minutes and then asked for help in purchasing the antenna we actually needed. We were given good information for making a decision but the person helping us was not friendly at all and didn't really seem interested in helping...
review »Best Buy is to electronics stores as what Wal-Mart is to discount stores...the biggest. This can be good and bad.
Sometimes you actually get a knowledgeable sales person...sometimes not. Some years ago I found one when my old TV bit the dust. I explained that I was on a pension and wanted just a good basic TV. He immediately showed me a 'floor sample' RCA at a rock bottom price. He also explained that this was clearance item only and it came with no box and no instruction manual. But, he did take the time to go through the remote control with me and made sure I understood how to set...
review »It seems in the world of electronic stores, we like to assume that bigger = better. Why go to a local store when there is BEST BUY?! I mean, they have everything and the best support department, right?
My past experiences here have been nothing but headaches.
1) In-store: The Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, 2007 was a busy time - we were hunting for our first refridgerator for our new house! We knew our budget and the style, but we still wanted to do a little comparrison shopping.
I had gone out with my dad while my husband was working and son was being watched by my mother. We walked into...
review »I've always had good experiences with best buy. The staff are usually available and willing to help, and if they don't know the answer they'll go out of their way to either find out or find someone that does.
I always feel like I'm listened to there.
My family bought a $1,500 laptop this summer and left it with the Geek Squad to have the anti virus and spy ware software installed as Best Buy recommended. When I brought the laptop home after having this done, it wouldn't start. Turns out the Geek Squad person who installed the new software also deleted a whole lot of necessary software required for the computer to run.
When I returned to the store I got terrible customer service even from the manager (Concord NH) and was told I must have done something to the computer.
I have told all my friends and family never to shop there again.
