Bernina Sewing Machine - Aurora 440 QE Reviews

I OWN THIS BERNINA AURORA 440 QE. I AM A QUILTER.  I LOVE IT.  THIS MACHINE DOES ALL THE FINE STITCHING I NEED.  I THINK IT MIGHT BE A LITTLE TOO MUCH FOR A NEW SEAMSTRESS, BUT WHO KNOWS.  I HAD A KENMORE FOR 100 YEARS AND THOUGHT I COULD NOT PART WITH IT, BUT THIS NEW MACHINE HAS BROUGHT ME INTO THE 21ST CENTURY.  I LOVE THE EASY THREADING & EASY STITCH CHANGES.  IT CAME WITH A COMPREHENSIVE INSTRUCTION BOOK AND A VIDEO.  THE STORE WHERE I PURCHASED SOLD ONLY BERNINA, SO IT IS EASY TO GO BACK THERE FOR INFORMATION AND OTHER FEET. 

THE ONLY CON I HAVE IS THAT I FEEL BAD WHEN I GO WEEKS...

I traded in my new Janome because it was a lemon that had been to the repair store many times and made a trip to the factory only to be told that it was in perfect working condition and must be "user error."  Now I have the Bernina 440 and the only complaints I have are that it doesn't warn me that the bobbin is low and I have to get my husband to come and take off the plastic tray as I don't have the strength to yank it off.  If I leave it on, I can hardly put in a new bobbin or clean the bobbin trace.  Otherwise, the machine hums right along and I've had no problems with tension or thread...

I purchased the 440QE last year at a quilt show.  I already owned a Bernina but wanted to upgrade to a machine that better suited my quilting needs.  I tried the 440QE for several months before my purchase and local quilt store only sells the Bernina...(Thank God)  I too wish their was a warning light/sound when the bobbin is getting low.  However, I do hear a slight noise just prior to it running out which is helpful but you have to really pay attention and not be listening to your ipod.  The stitches are great and the cleaning is easy.  Also, I found the BSR to be a bit challenging at first,...

I have wanted a Bernina sewing machine since seventh grade home economics class, where they had several and I fell in love! I finally made the plunge last year, picking out the Bernina Aurora 440 Quilters Edition and it is even more awesome than I ever imagined. Yes, they have a heavy price tag, but perfection does not come without a cost. The stitch quality and ease of operation are exceptional. I get to use this terrific Bernina machine when I go to my Mom's house.  It's very easy to thread and change the feet on, which is a definite plus. 

I'm a quilter that doesn't like to do the actual quilting.  When I use this machine I enjoy quilting small projects, table runners and wall hangings.  It's very smooth to sew with!

Bernina's 440QE has proved to be a great investment.  The stitch quality and features are as advertised and the Bernina support has been very helpful.  Love the lighting system, needle threader, extra bobbin winder feature and the BSR.  I am a quilter but also do clothing construction for grandchildren with special deco stitches and am adding to my "feet" collection.  Still learning to use the hands free presser foot lever- it's a journey!

Looked at all the features of the Aurora 440QE in the store, and read about the reputation of Bernina.  The machine looks really good.  However, I have one question; would $2600 for the modle without the embroidery module be a fair price ?

Love the Bernina 440 QE sewing machine. Could not ask for a better machine unless maybe a Bernina 820 or 830! 

I got my Bernina 440 QE last May on sale at the local dealer, and it is the best purchase I have ever made! It has really helped me step up my sewing and quilting. I have been using it nearly every day for the last 6 months, and I don't know what I did without it. If you are a quilter, it comes with all the feet you need to peice and quilt. My applique looks great too. I haven't had any of the tentsion issues I had with my last machine, and everything I make looks professional. I would never hesitate to recommend this machine!

I love the BSR and the automatic buttonhole.  I hate the tinny sound it makes and after 18 months, it just shuts itself off every minute or so - very frustrating. I'm told it needs a new board of some kind. I'm away from home for the summer but will take it in when I get home. I understand the board is guaranteed for 2 yrs so I'll just make it. Has anyone else had this problem?  I've hardly used it
