Bernina Sewing Machine - Aurora 440 QE  —

I bought the Bernina 440QE for the BSR which has never worked to my satisfaction.  My dealer, which is the only one within 50 miles, is not helpful and when I complain to Bernina I get no response.  I much prefer my 13 year old Pfaff which has never given me a moments trouble.  I finally convinced my dealer that the machine is defective and that it's not the operator, which was the answer I was given everytime.  It took going in, turning on the machine and forcing them to try it.   Yes it was threaded right, it had their expensive thread and a new needle.  All the things I'd been told I was doing wrong,  It still sounds like a bucket of bolts and skips stitches all over.  The new update they said would help only made it worse.  The needle threader has been replace 3 times and still doesn't work.  My husband bought me the embroidery module soon after I got the machine and I now have too much invested in it to give up.  But if it comes back from the factory this time not working beautifully it is going to be traded for a Pfaff!  I'm sorry I spent the money I did based on the hype.

triciastitches,

I totally understand your frustration. I have had my 440QE for 8 months and it has been in the shop 3 times. The store personnel try to be helpful, but they treat me like a moran. This is suppose to be a sturdy machine, but everything has to be constantly adjusted. The bobbin tension had to be adjusted after 6 weeks of use. The second time I took it in it was making an odd sound every once and awhile. They kept it five days and said they couldn't find anything wrong with it. The first time I used it after I got it back the feeddogs quit working. I took it back in again and was told that they just needed to be adjusted. The tech told me that I must have bumped it or something. I told them I had not bumped it and if anybody bumped it, it had to be him when he had it in the shop the week before. I wish I had never bought a Bernina and if anybody asks me, I will tell them the same thing. I sent a certified letter to Bernina of America and got a phone call from a "rude" individual who basically said there was nothing wrong with my machine, but they would have their techs check it out. I told them I would take it in if they would give me a loaner. I am not sure where things are going, but I am about ready to trade in for a Pfaff as well. Hope everything works out okay.

You must have gotten a lemon. You'd have a fight on your hands if you tried to take my Bernina away! I will agree that the bobbin changing is problematic and I would like a signal that the bobbin is empty before I 'sew' a long seam with no bobbin thread!

I've used several Bernina 440's and they all sewed beautifully. I'm saving up for my own now. I have a Pfaff now that has always sounded like a jet taking off.

Thanks for the warning. You will save a lot of folks from the hassle. I'm sorry that it was such a disappointment for you.
