The Bernina 440QE is way overpriced for the features it has (or the lack thereof.) I agree with the reviewer who said it doesn't let you know when bobbin thread is low. Also, it is difficult to reach under the slide-on table to change bobbins or clean the thread race. The slide-on table itself is a pain, as is the accessory box. Having used many different brands of machines, I much prefer Pfaff, Janome, and Babylock for the convenience of access to the bobbin and the built-on accessory drawer that swings out of the way to open up the free arm. Also, for quilters, the Pfaff has a built-in walking foot. This is an optional, but necessary, accessory for quilting and is an extra $150 for the Bernina. The "classes" that one gets with Berninas are merely sales pitches for the extra (and expensive) feet and other accessories that Bernina wants to sell you. Also, Bernina touts their automatic needle threader, but it doesn't actually work, so they have a manual needle threader to sell you to go along with your overpriced machine. If status symbols mean more to you than value for your money, go ahead and buy the Bernina. If you want a machine that does what the manufacturer says it will do, buy a different brand. Bernina sewing machines are one instance where you do not get what you pay for.

I beg to differ about much of what was said. The walking foot comes standard with the 440. The table slides on and off with great easy and the Accessory cabinet is great for holding the 10 different feet that again come standard. If you really have sewn and quilt on this machine as well as a pfaff and babylock. You know the easy and superior quality of the sewing. It quilts like a dream. It has true stitch regulator unlike the other brands. I don't if you don't like a machine, it's a personal choice. At least know what your talking about and have accurate information about " standard" vs not

I have a new Bernina 440 QE and I am getting used to it. I have used a Pfaff for the last 5 years and I love it. Pfaff offers the duel feed which I miss with the Bernina. Both machines are excellent machines. I agree with the price as high on the Bernina, it should tell me when my bobbin is low! I would look at both machines serioulsy and pick the one that serves your needs the best. The duel feed walking foot is key when you are sewing layers, as in quilting. I am somewhat disappointed with the Bernina, as it is not as grand as it is talked up too be. Pfaff also has a auto needle threader and great compartments to hold your accessories. Easier access to change your bobbins too! And I agree, the slide on table on the Bernina is a pain. The reason I bought the Bernina is the BSR for quilting. Other than this, I prefer the Pfaff.

Snowbird must be connected with a Pfaff dealer - this machine works beautifully, including the very easy to use auto needle threader, the placement of the bobbin placement and the very handy accessory box. I suppose if you have invested in an inferior machine like the Pfaff, you must justify your expediture somehow.

With the 440QE sewing machine the walking foot comes with it and so does the BSR foot so I dont know why you are complaining about the cost of it. Also the needle threader is awsome, I don't know why yours does not work I have also been happy with mine. I think that PAFF is not that great of a brand, they don't stand behind their product and when you take in your machine to be repaired they try to tell you what they will give you for a "trade in" value if you will give them your machine and purchace a more expense PAFF machine, just so that they can get a sale. I would say that you very unfairly rated Bernina. The 440QE is not for me but I LOVE my Bernina. Nothing will match the buttonholes it makes and the BSR foot is great, I also like having a walking foot not attached to my machine so when I dont need it I dont have to put up with it.
