I'm a stickler for a good straight stitch for top stitching. This machine sews the best top stitch I've ever seen a machine sew. Ease of Use Mechanical. Point the dial to the desired stitch and stitch. Fabric Handling Sews everything from chiffon to denim and vinyl equally well. Versatility The machine is portable and it is also my main and almost exclusively used machine at home. Design Excellent. Easy to use and read the dials, etc., ergonomically correct. Durability I have had mine for almost 30 Years and it has NEVER needed any repairs. I use it all the time! I've made cloth for my children when they were toddlers and now for my grandchildren. I've reupholstered couches with it and made vinyl seat covers to protect my cars' leather seats from the dogs. I've even made a wedding dress complete with a veil with it! I made clothes for my mother, husband, in-laws, friends, neighbors, and it just keeps on sewing!

I received my Bernina 801 Sport as a gift from a friend who no longer needed the machine. It needed a tiny bit of work done to the tension which was just a bobbin adjustment and it worked like a charm! It has a powerful motor that guides the needle easily through most fabrics and without breakage. And it also sews beautifully! I have been really impressed with this machine simply because even though it might be old, it is well made and reflects a company that has pride in all the work they do! You won't find hardly any plastic parts on this machine which makes it all better. It is a sturdy, reliable machine that will probably outlive me. Everytime I use my machine I get a little excited about the prospect of using a machine that is so well made. It has helped me to create many clothing items and I plan to use it until I can afford a machine with a few more features. However, I may look into getting another Bernina because I know that if I get a machine made by Bernina, I will get a well-made, dependable, high-quality machine that won't let me down.
