My machine never worked correctly, even with multiple times being sent to Bernina maintenance. It had a clicking noise that got louder as the machine got warmer. When the machine got too warm, it would shut down. Bernina was never able to find what the problem was. Now the rolling ball does not work. I am trading this useless machine in for a Viking.

has been serviced 1 time. It was cleaned and oiled. It had been doing something weird but when cleaned it was perfect again for another 6 years. I wish my cars were this well made! Bernina is quality, second to none. I made quilts and ball gowns , bridal veils, Halloween costumes, Christmas pageant costumes...even sewn with leather and once made a hammock! Versatility I have used every needle and stitch available!

This sewing machine is very versatile. It can be used for sewing and quilting. Making clothes is much easier using this sewing machine.It performs well in stiching and fabric handling.I can replace my missing buttons now with this sewing machine.

I got my 1630 soon after it came out because someone traded it back in. The dealer called me and told me about it and gave me a great deal. Had I known what a great machine I was getting, I would have driven a lot faster! Before I get it, I had worn out 2 Singers so I guess I was pretty hard on machines. Plastic parts just don't last at all. The Bernina uses all metal which is why it weighs so much. My favorite feature, if only 1 was allowed for the winner, would have to be the Bernina buttonholes. They're perfect everytime and the machine memorizes it so I don't have to think about it. This is probably the last sewing machine I'll ever buy. It's made wedding dresses, sleeping bags, boat sails, cushion covers for the tent trailer, quilts, clothes, doll clothes, shopping bags, and sewn on buttons. Design It's a bit cumbersome to carry around and I wonder if the case could be tweaked a bit to help that. Durability It's outlived 2 minivans.

Have had this machine since 1996. Bought brand new. Have never had a problem with it and it has been used on a daily basis. I would purchase this machine again in a heartbeat. I also have a Brother and a Singer and I only use the Bernina 1630. Very easy to use and care for.

I upgraded my old Bernina for the Bernina 1630. I has been quite awhile since I wanted a new sewing machine and I finally decided it was now or never.  My Bernina dealer is very helpful, they take trade ins and give a good price for your old machine.  This Bernina has lots of features that my old machine did not have.  I may not use all of them, but they are there if I need them.  Sewing on this Bernina is a dream and if it performs like my previous Bernina sewing machines, I won't have many problems with it.  And if I do, the Bernina dealer  has always done repairs like cleaning or minor adjustments for free.  They always give you free lessons on the new machine (or used) that you buy, so you know how to use the machine properly.  I am very happy with my Bernina.

I've purchased my machine directly from the factory in Switzerland and she still performs like the day she left the factory in 1996. That's 15 years ago now... I broke one bobbincase and that's all the trouble I've encountered since purchase. Great machine ! Rick Ringma.

Some brands you just rely on and Bernina is one of those. It is simple to use, does a great job. Plus, the Bernina staff in Overland park, ks are very helpful and there at anytime if you have issues. They provide a training class to take, walk you thru using this new and wonderful machine. My mom ownes this brand and has both of her daughters who sew, after using her Bernina machine, dead set on buying this brand.j Good job Bernina on doing the right thing.

I purchased this machine in 1997 or 1998 and have never had a single day of disappointment!  It is great.  I've sewn everything from wedding dresses and cheerleader uniforms to mending jeans and making quilts!  It is by far the best investment I've ever made in a machine.  Bernina is well worth the money!  This machine has never had to have repairs...I keep it cleaned and oiled and it runs like the first day I brought it home!  I even purchased extra bobbin cases so I could use one with have floss in the bobbin to create reverse embroidery on items and it worked like a charm! (tip: always mark your extra bobbin case with the adjusted tension with bright red finger nail polish to keep the two cases recognizable!) Vanessa in Oklahoma
