Beneful Original Dog Food Review Summary
Considering Beneful Original Dog Food? Budget conscious dog owners who like to spoil their pets claim that this food is "the best you can buy." Read the ingredients. This is a bag of processed corn that the company couldn't use for the human food line. The first ingred is corn the meat doesn't even show up in the listing. Cute commercials pretty packagaing and an expeinsive price tag. People are being conned by the marketing companies. Be an educated consumer, if your going to by a bag of processed corn dont pay over 8$ for it.…

You wouldn't be very healthy if you ate fast food every day for every meal. Your dog isn't either. Of course dogs LIKE to eat this..it probably tastes as good as candy does to children. If someone puts a healthy meal in front of you (on one side) and some french fries and a shake on the other, what do you think YOU would choose? People need to be more concerned with thier pets'…

An overpriced bag of corn describes any grocery store bag of dog food. Also probably a bag of overpriced wheat and by-products. I am very conscious of my dog's food having two meat sources as the first two ingredients and being organic, if possible. My brand loyalty is to Royal Canin. Available for all types and ages of dogs and cats, it is completely nutritious with no fillers. Every time I see a friend using grocery "junk food" I do my best to educate them and once they realize they really are just feeding their dogs junk, they make better brand choices in the…

This food (and pretty much anything made by Hill's Science Diet, Purina, Iams/Eukanuba) are NOT good foods. It really irritates me that the manufacturers have the nerve to claim (and deceive many pet owners) that this is a good food. Look at the ingredients! There are so many better choices out there for your pets.…

selective about pet food, very attached to my dog, a cat fancier, animal lover, an exotic pet owner
I would never give this food to my dog. I can't believe there are actually people out there who think that this is a healthy diet for a largely carnivorous pet. Corn is nothing more than a cheap form of carbohydrate and said to cause obesity in dogs and cats. Wheat is linked to allergy problems. Soy is yet another controversial ingredient in dog foods, possibly considered to be worse than wheat on the allergy list. Blue 2 has caused brain tumors in mice, while yellow 6 has been found to cause adrenal gland and kidney tumors, and contains small amounts of many carcinogens. Sugar: need I say…

budget conscious, one who spoils her dog, have a great veterinarian, very attached to my dog, willing to pay more for quality, considers safety, animal lover, not rich
I was married to a veterinarian for quite some time and I have raised dogs for many years. I now work with a therapy dog and am in the process of starting my own therapy dog group. I have an ex son-in-law who consults with local veterinarians on many health related issues for dogs, as he is considered an expert in the field. — Dogs have always been carnivorous animals - meat eaters. The protein in meat is what they need to maintain optimum health. The nutrition that comes from corn and grain is not what they need at all. In order to make a feed like this…

always spoiling my dog!, daily driver, willing to pay for quality, have a pampered pet, not a fan of by-products, have a great veterinarian, one who spoils her dog, concerned w/safety & comfort of my pets
I once thought that Beneful was good for my dog's, I thought, "wow, I have found some thing that they like and is good for them". Then I recieved a very sick German Shepherd dog, and really had to research what she ate, I was very surprised to learn that Beneful was no where to be found, while on my search for a "healthy" dog food. To make a long story short, a couple of weeks after I got them completely changed over to their new dog food, I noticed a big change in ALL of my dogs, activity level, eyes, hair, everything, and my sick GS could tolorate and…

Marketing and some food coloring make Purina's Beneful sound like a healthy food, but when you take a closer look at the ingredients, it becomes clear that Beneful is another dog food made with leftovers from human food processing that aren't fit for consumption. Yes, they do add some vegetables - dried carrots and dried peas are the twentieth and twenty-first ingredients listed. Long before you get to the carrots and peas on the ingredients list, you find ground yellow corn, chicken by-product meal, three different kinds of flour, sugar, and animal digest. Most of the…

Since switching to Beneful Original dog food almost 2 years ago my dogs have been healthier than ever. Any dog owner knows that when your pups eat the wrong foods, (or combination of food, table scraps and treats!) that bowel problems become iminent. My dogs have had less flatulation and more regular bowel movements for the duration of consuming this food. Even the occasional table scrap is no longer a problem. When feeding my greyhounds I add 2 tablespoons of canola or fish oil to the dry kibble and the combination creates a beautiful shiny coat. We…

Bought this food in a large bag- I have large dogs so... — Well, the kibble looks delicious. Colorful, different shapes etc... My only dog at the time could not keep this stuff down. It went in, it came out- almost just as fast. Not a good sign for me, or the dog. Ended up not finishing the bag- I gave it to the trash and never tried it again. — The nutrition of it reminds me of junk food. Something I did not want to continue feeding. Maybe it could be fed as a "snack" —…

Sadly to say I too used Beneful for a long time without considering what longterm effects this could have on my dog's health. Yes, it is cheaper than those with more lamb, chicken and so on. However, by using this corn product your dog's health could be at risk. Read the contents of the package and seek some advise. If you love your dog, some investigating Will be worth its' weight in gold. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. —…

I bought this stuff when It first came out on the market... The contents of the bag looked like it would be appetizing and Boy my Labs loved it! The problem with the food is that after about 2 weeks my dogs started bulking up. After about a month, they were each about 10 pounds over weight. It took a long time to get that weight off of them and I never bought the dry food again. Your dogs may differ, but that was my experience with it. —…

very attached to my dog, have a great veterinarian, animal lover, a dog owner, selective about pet food, not rich, Dog Owner
According to the veterinarian my dogs diabetes was most likely caused from him eating too much Beneful dog food that has too much sugar in it. I guess Beneful could be used in small doses to dogs, but because we used it on a regular basis, the sugar has caused us to have to give our dog insulin every day. I will not recommend the product as not to possibly lead others down the path of diabetes with their animal.…
