Benadryl Allergy Medicine Review

Benadryl is a great product that provides quick relief of annoying allergy symptoms. As a teacher and mother, I keep a supply of Benadryl liquid in my classroom and cupboard for the unexpected allergy flare-ups caused by seasonal weather, pet dander, or bug bites.

For example, last summer, a child at my summer camp was handling the bunnies. When she was done, she forgot to go wash her hands and started rubbing her eyes. Almost immediately her face and skin around her eyes started to swell up with hives. I called her mother and asked if she'd allow me to give her daughter some Benadryl liquid to slow the symptoms down until she could come pick her up. The mother agreed, so I gave the child the recommended dose and in about 15 minutes, her symptoms started to go away. Her face slowly lost the red color and the hives went away.

Another example: My son loves to swim but for some reason after he gets out of a chlorinated pool, he starts sneezing uncontrollably. His doctor told us to give him Benadryl liquid immediately if the sneezing gets worse. Benadryl works like a dream in these situations.

Another great use of Benadryl was illustrated when my son had to go in for oral surgery. He had a tooth growing in from the roof of his mouth and was scheduled for surgery even though he was suffereing from a sinus infection. Iinstead of putting him completely asleep, the oral surgeon gave him some Benadryl to open up his sinuses so he could better control his breathing under twilight sedation. The Benadryl did its job and opened my son's sinuses enough so that he could comfortable control his breathing during the surgery.

As an allergy-sufferer, I keep the Benadryl pills in the cupboard for the seasonal allergies that come with the change of seasons. I like how quickly my symptoms seem to disappear after taking the medicine. I also use the other variations of Benadryl. For example, the Benadryl allergy and sinus product helps when I have a sinus headache. It lessens the annoying running nose and itchy, watery eyes while alleviating my headache.

The only con to the product is how sleepy it makes me. Therefore, I have tailored the dosage to fit my needs. If I cannot stand the symptoms and it's during the work day, I take half a dose. That seems to at least minimize the symptoms to where they are manageable and I can stay awake and finish out the workday. If my symptoms return when I am at home, I take the full dose before bed so I can have an uninterrupted night's sleep.
