Cute but too small

The Bella Cucina Circus Waffle Maker was a gift to us for the kids from family. I think it is super cute to be able to make waffles in fun shapes for the kids. I have made waffles with this maker with a regular waffle mix recipe. I felt like it took way too long to make waffles, because they were so small. The kids really liked the shape but also got tired of waiting for waffles to get done. Performance The Bella Cucina Waffle iron cooked waffles evenly with a nice brown color and cooked through. The waffles held shape and looked so cute. My kids really liked eating them. Settings/Features This waffle iron has very few settings to choose from. Ease of Cleaning This waffle maker was just as easy to clean as any other electric waffle iron. Ease of Use I found it difficult to pour the right amount of waffle mix into the waffle iron without causing it to over flow. Durability I did not use the waffle iron too many times, but it seems to be durable even to scrubbing to get it clean.

Since I have been making home made waffles I am getting better and better at it and having top notch equipment helps in that area. I love this unit as the waffles comes out buttery and flavorful and they literally melt in your mouth. Performance Works superbly each and every time I have used this time. I have been more adventurous and began making variations to my original recipes and this unit has risen to the occasion. Settings/Features Simple settings, no fuss using this unit at all. I love that aspect of it, since I am still somewhat in the new stages of making waffles at this point. Ease of Cleaning Super easy to clean, as the plates just slide out. I like that a lot. All you need is warm soapy warm and it is done. Ease of Use Very easy to use this unit. Since I enjoy making waffles so much, I don't feel like I put in any hard work using this unit at all. Durability It has stood the test of time and the amount of use I have given it. I am very pleased with this unit.

Don't get fooled by the cute animal shapes - bad product.

So, I saw other reviewers saying they bought this waffle maker for their children due to the animal shapes. I'm not going to lie, I'm 23 and bought it for myself due to the animal shapes...Oops, I'm a child at heart. The only good thing about this waffle makes is the animal shapes, honestly. Firstly, the waffle maker has a weird smell when you're using it. It smells like chemicals or something. I didn't trust eating a food product that was cooked on a chemically smelling surface. Secondly, the waffle maker is supposed to be nonstick. It definitely is not nonstick. The waffles stuck horribly to the surface. They also did not cook evenly. Parts of the animals that had smaller sections would be overcooked. I washed the waffle maker due to the chemical smell [I did not eat the waffles I made due to the smell] to see if that would help and as I was watching parts of the surface started to come off...One wash & the black stuff was already peeling off the surface? No thanks. I tossed it in the trash. I do not recommend this waffle maker at all.

I bought this waffle maker when it was on clearance. When I first got it home and took a good look at it, I wasn't too sure that I would like it. It is a small appliance and the waffles that come out are small and really meant more for children. I happen to like the smaller size even just for me. The smaller size makes portioning out servings very easy, but that is just my personal preference. It did take making two batches of waffles for me to get the hang of the right consistency and amount of batter to pour. Once I got the hang of it though, I was able to whip up a few dozen small waffles for the freezer in no time. I must say I love the size of these for my small toaster oven. It makes life so much easier to be able to pull ready made fun shaped waffles out of the freezer and have breakfast on the table in no time. Not to mention that it is so much cheaper to make my own waffles from scratch to freeze. I also found clean up to be easy. After I unplugged the waffle iron and let it cool off for an hour or so, I was able to easily wipe it down and have it ready to go for my next waffle making day.

Cute, but that's it

I got this on clearance at Meijer after my kids seen it several times and were begging for it. I can see why it was on clearance. You have to make several batches of waffles (which are super small by the way) and throw them away first. Then when you can move on to make the waffles, but I thought it still had a funky chemical smell which worried me. Next, the waffle maker is suppose to be non-stick, but no matter how much I oiled or sprayed the plates with non-stick cooking spray, I would still have at least one part of each waffle to stick. I only used silicone turners and tongs on this, yet the third time I went to use it, I noticed that it looked like the black coating is beginning to peel. Which is annoying since I followed the directions and didn't use anything (including soaps or sponges) that weren't suppose to be used. It also still smells like melting plastic or something when you use it. I have not used it since. I'll invest in something with bigger waffles and don't smell like poison.

The novelty hasn't worn off for my kids, it's been nearly a year

I got this waffle maker to make some fun shaped breakfast treats for my children, in the year that we have had it they still beg for Circus Waffles and enjoy them just as much as they day I got it. I had a bit of trial and error to fill the wells without getting too much over spill, basically anything that still got cooked but didn't come out shaped like an animal. This cooks well, the light comes on when the waffles are done and I have never burned any following that guide. I wish it made more than three at a time, but it still is a pretty fantastic product.

Neat idea, but poor performance

My young children and I were very excited to receive this waffle maker as a gift last Christmas. The children love the lion, elephant and clown shapes that the waffle maker provides. Even though it is a pain for me to make, they love the shapes. The reasons that I rated this product a 2 are first of all it's stickiness. It is made to be non-stick, however I have made many waffles that have stuck. I have slathered it with oil to make them not stick and they still find a way to stick in some spots. Then they also taste terribly like oil. It is difficult to get the sticking waffles out. Also, the cleaning is a big problem. The batter burns and sticks in spots, while other spots are full of oil due to the large amount of oil used to make the product. My family has also found that the waffles cook unevenly. The smaller areas of the animals burn quickly. This makes it difficult to have an entire waffle that is done correctly. Some always ends up burnt. Although my children like the waffles I can salvage, I would not recommend this to anyone who wants good, no stick waffles.

kind of disappointing

What a cute idea in theory, making waffles in fun circus-themed shapes to break out of a waffle rut. The waffles are very small, which means if you are making them for more than one person, you will be standing over the waffle iron for quite a while. This iron has a non stick finish, but the waffles still stick- unless completely slathered in butter or oil each batch. You can't use metal to remove the sticking waffles because it will scratch the finish. Everytime I use this waffle iron, it smells like hot plastic. That is the deal breaker for me. Its cheaply made and filling my kitchen with noxious fumes. I can't recommend it. Maybe you could just buy a regular waffle iron and decorate each waffle with cute things while you are waiting for the next batch to cook.

Not a great waffle maker

We received the Bella Cucina Circus Waffle Maker as a gift. A family member had bought it from Macy's. It says to make a few waffles at first and throw them away. Even after throwing several rounds of waffles away, the machine still smelled really made which made the waffles smell really bad. I did not want to feed them to my children with that awful smell. I was concerned what chemicals might be on the waffle. When I was finished and started cleaning the waffle maker, I noticed that some of the black coating was already coming off. I did not use metal utensils and followed all the directions in the book. I do not plan to use this product again. The kids were really excited about the animal shaped waffles. Great concept, just poor product.
