Bell & Howell Doorstop Alarms —

First of all, I must say that I really do live in a safe building.  On more occasions than I care to admit, I have staggered in carrying a lot of stuff only to leave my keys dangling in the outer front door lock, sometimes all night, and nothing happened.  So the last thing I need is a fancy security system installed which sounds an alarm at a remote location if something adverse happens here.  On the other hand, it's nice to know that something extra is standing guard for you, providing an extra sense of safety.  Someone else understands this and they have come up with just the thing ... the Bell & Howell Doorstop Alarm.

This gadget is small and made of lightweight aluminum but it does the job.  It's like a watch dog that never has to be walked.  If Marian Crane (the character played by Janet Leigh in "Psycho") had been able to stick one of these under the inside of her door at the Bates Motel, things might have worked out differently.  It has a non-slip base so that when wedged under a door from the inside, it will prevent anyone from pushing the door open and gaining entry.  Protection is enhanced by loading two AA batteries which power a piercing alarm which is "armed" by an on-off switch.  For prices ranging from $19.99 to $29.99, you can get a set of three door stops (two free with one).

The Bell & Howell Doorstop Alarm is easily packed for traveling.  (I suggest removing the batteries before packing.)  The sense of security it provides is priceless.  Not only does it offer protection against an unwanted intruder getting in but it also reduces the risk involved in sleepwalking.  Should an unconscious meanderer try to pull a door open inward against the doorstop, an alarm will be triggered which will either wake him up or slow him down considerably.

MY VIEWPOINT:

I live in a safe building but I love my Bell & Howell Doorstop Alarm even though the odds are very good that it will never have to actually stop anyone.  This gadget may not be suitable for use under all doors but works beautifully for "interior" ones.  If you love somebody who lives alone, you may want to give them the gift of extra security for Christmas.  My dear auntie lives alone in a brick bungalow which is an almost impenetrable fortress but I gave her a set of these doorstops last Christmas and she has used them to carve out a "extra-safe" area in her home by putting wedges under the locked doors leading down to the basement and up to the attic.  Locks are good but Bell & Howell Doorstop Alarms take security a step farther.

I like that feeling, especially now as we move into the season of Peace on Earth and Good Will to All.

Wow, I didn't even know something like this existed. I watch so many true-crime shows, I freak MYSELF out sometimes. Nice review!

Especially if I sometimes leave my keys in the outside of the lock, lol!

I've seen these advertised and always wondered about them. I've heard that good security involves multiple layers of protection, so even if you live in a safe building, they're still worthwhile!
