Before our daughter was born, we shopped for a top-of-the-line baby monitor that would provide great sound quality and sensitivity for monitoring our little one while sleeping. The Bebe Sounds Angel Care Movement Sensor Baby Monitor was our #1 choice. It featured two parent units (shaped like cute little angels), a base transmission unit shaped like a white cloud, and there was also an under-mattress motion sensor that gave an added degree of observation for infants during the months when SIDS can be a concern. The hardware is sleek, well designed and unobtrusive, rather than sticking out like a sore thumb. Pricewise, while the Angel Care set is on the upper end, with all that is included (great quality, base unit and 2 parent units, movement sensor) we felt it was a good buy.
Once she was born, we discovered our daughter suffered from infant gastrointestinal reflux, which can also cause nighttime choking and contributes to sleep apnea in infants. This being the case, we were doubly glad we had chosen the Angel Care set! The under-mattress sensor was very sensitive - almost too much so - and we found that we didn't need to use this feature for very long...the audio monitoring system was sufficient in itself as our baby grew. The sound sensitivity is incredible - even the smallest sounds transmit very clearly. (Be sure to keep that in mind if you are having conversations in the baby's room that you don't want others to hear!) One thing to bear in mind is that the under-mattress sensor will not work with cradle or hammock style beds - a hard flat surface is required. When we switched to a hammock-style bed to aid our daughter's reflux management, we had to stop using the mattress sensor, but as mentioned, we found that audio monitoring was all that we needed at that point.
We liked that the Angel Care set came with two parent units that were both attuned to the base unit that stays with baby - very convenient and no need to constantly be moving the audio unit from room to room. We set them up with one parent unit upstairs in our bedroom and one downstairs in the family common area. The coverage area is great too - we have temporarily moved a parent unit outdoors when we were going to be busy outside while our little girl was napping, and it worked like a charm. The parent units have battery capability if desired, though we always plug them into AC wall outlets.
Finally, these travel well - when we visited friends and family when our daughter was an infant, it was simple to pack up the base unit and a parent unit for use wherever we stayed.
This set is over 4 years old now and works as well as it did when we removed it from the box. We will continue to use it with our little girl, particularly when she is sick and more likely to call out for us in the night. We would never consider recommending another baby monitor set - the Bebe Angel Care Movement Sensor Baby Monitor set is ideal! It's a newborn necessity!
