Most parents need to purchase a baby monitor and my husband and I have purchased one for each child. We first used the AngelCare Monitor with our first son 9 years ago and loved it so much we bought one 7 years later for our youngest. The first was probably still working but we gave it away years ago. I could not sleep the first couple of weeks my son was home because I was so worried about SIDS. We bought this monitor and I finally fell alseep. It works by sensing movement using a sensor pad under the mattress. We tested in with heavy objects to make sure it wasn't just testing weight. 9 years ago we did get some false alarms when my son would move into a corner, but the new one with my daughter never went off. We're still using it now that she's 2 to make sure she doesn't try to climb out of the crib! It comes with two receivers which was great for our house. One travelled with us and one stayed in the bedroom. I will say the reception isn't the best, but the motion sensor makes it worth it.
