Not sure if deodorant qualifies as a beauty product...Does anyone know how men's deodorant differs from women's? (other than the scents)

in the title i meant to put men's...oops

I don't know all the ins and outs. I do know that Secret was initially marketed to men. Different name. They shifted focus. It was a major marketing score back a long time ago - like before my time. I've just read about that. "Strong enough for a man . . . (and was made for them - but oh well)."

so they are the same, just a marketing thing? I have had a hard time finding a deoderant that works with my chemistry and I tried my husbands brand with better success and it got me thinking...thanks!

I think it is a marketing thing. Deodorants are deodorants and I looked at my husband's MANLY stuff and my girly stuff and they are the same. His smells like a guy and mine smells like a girl.

Degree is a unisex one and it works for us all. I honestly believe there is no difference except packaging and scent.

I do think they MAY use aloe or some other thing in women's since we usually shave our armpits and they can get irritated by products. Men don't have that worry (usually). I think if your husband's works better, use it! lol. I find that certain brands work better for me but I don't really know why...

Patty, that makes sense. I find that a deoderant will work for me for a long time and then it stops, no idea why.  I will keep using my husband's, so what if I smell Glacial Fresh!

Dovey - Try Dry Idea. The unscented is my fav. I've used it for years. It's more expensive but worth it. It's uni-sex. My younger son has sensitive skin but is a sweaty teen boy. I had him try it and it works for him too - stop sweating and also does not break him out. The scented ones in this line smell odd to me. Even regular. I drive across town to get this specifically in unscented.

cyndi, Thanks, I have never tried that brand.  I have spent a lot on deoderants this summer, what's a few more bucks if i can finally find something that works!

I am a big fan of Certain-Dri...it's a couple bucks pricier than other deodorants and is unscented.  If you have been a sufferer of frequent perspiration like I have, then this is the product for you.  It contains the highest amount of aluminum chloride without needing a Dr's prescription and is applied at night.  This is an excellent deodorant that will take the guesswork out of men vs. women's antiperspirants.

Unlike men, women have very few deodorants on the shelf to choose from. Deodorants mask the scent while anti-perspirants actually clog the sweat glands and are highly suspect as a cause of breast cancer particularly when used on shaved skin. Do some researching on the internet, there have been a lot of studies on this.

Like madgolfer, I have heard of such studies.  In fact, my step-mom found a mysterious mass on her breast (it ended up being nothing) and her doctor even suggested she stop using antiperspirants and look for a more holistic method of sweat remediation.  However, at this current time, there has been no conclusive evidence that explicitly states such toiletry items are a direct or even indirect cause of breast cancer.  Until that happens, I choose to smell like a lady and will continue to use my roll-on.

Agree with most most of you, women's deodorants smell soft and men's smells strong and old spicy. Just another marketing strategy.

I have noticed more choices recently. Dove brand no longer works for me. I like a light fresh scent if any at all. I take the caps of and whiff before buying. I even do that for laundry detergent. i have to smell it before I buy it.

I do that, too.  I actually had a grocery store manager come up to me once to scold me!  It's not like I was pouring it out!  I just want to smell the detergent before I bought it!  Jeez, LOL!
