We all learn over time and come up with things that work but may not be common knowledge. Help out a buddy here. Share a little beauty tip that we may not know about and that you've been keeping to yourself. SHHHH. We'll never tell and will be forever grateful.

I don't wear much make up either, but hair is normally my focus.

My "tip" is to not wash your hair every day. Your hair's natural oils are amazing at protecting your hair from heat (curling iron, straigthener) or pollution. Unless your hair is ueber oiley, it's best to wait a day. By all means wash your body though!

If you're worried about the smell or shine, put a little baby powder on your roots, flip your hair over, and blow dry it a little bit. I try to use as little product as I can, but that's just me. There are also hair perfumes you can buy if your hair is really stenchy.

Concealer. I don't care who you are, if you are over 25, you DO have shadows whether you know it or not. A little concealer under the eyes really wakes you up and makes you look younger and less tired. The skin around the eyes is so thin and thins more with age. Then you see the little veins which come through as dark circles.

I would leave the house completely barefaced (and have lots of times) but never without a bit of concealer around my eyes to assure people don't think I'm a zombie.

Ok I have one but as Patty said a concealer; however, I have an amazing one.I didn't think it was  made anymore so I'll review it later and not tell but I'll give you a hint. Anything that will cover for ex., birthmarks is amazing for concealers. I have an AGE YIKES spot on my face and this is much better than concealer. It stays on all day. I asked my dermatologist to laser it off but she said it costs a fortune (don't think $150 is a fortune but..) and to wait until I have more than one. This stuff does the trick. I'm in a hotel and WAS not getting on the computer. Heading to the gym and the pool while hubby is a conference and we "get" to have dinner with my daughter tonight and tomorrow night. Heading home Thursday. Tomorrow will be computer day after I chill today...Jo

Bring mosquito repellent when camping. Doesn't smell that great but looks better than 1000 mosquito bites if you're a mosquito magnet like me.

Seriously, I don't wear make-up and am allergic to most products out there so I have to stick with Dove for sensitive skin for bathing.

Sleep is great for a lot of what ails you. I look pale and puffy if i don't get enough sleep. Drinking water is good for your skin.

True beauty secrets, I don't have. I wish I did. The only thing i can think of is i put a dot of concealer on the upper lid corner of my eyes where the hollow of your nose is. This gives the eyes a more open look. Supposedly. :)

Bronzer. My faves are Read Earths and Rimmel. Just a touch of bronzer makes me look like I have flawless skin and surf on the beach every other day - even if I stay home most of the day with my son and don't even know how to swim. LOL!

P.S.
And when I countour my jaw line, it totally hides my heriditary slight double chin, too. Sssshhhh...

You know what works real fast? Sunglasses! The trend is oversized ones which is great  for me. When I am at home looking like a walking zombie, I will toss on a pair of oversized sunglasses and go out to get the mail, run to the store, whatever. No one can see that my poor eyes are circled and in need of good mascara.

Another secret is that, if you carry just a lip gloss or lipstick with you, you can dab it on the cheeks for a flush and, depending on the shade, even the eyelids as well as the lips. I have one lip gloss that is perfect for all three areas and I can make myself look presentable with just that tube in my purse.

Sunglasses might be a quick cover up but they're a nightmare for a photographer. Nothing looks more boring than a picture of people wearing sunglasses. When I take pictures, I always ask people to take off their sunglasses. Even when strangers hand me their camera and ask me to take a shot, I will ask them to take off their sunglasses (if they're wearing them).

If you're shooting pictures outside during the day, two big photographic tips from me are:

1. Use a flash often, even in bright sun.
2. Don't shoot pics of people in sunglasses.

You can now go back to your regularly scheduled beauty discussion.

Yes my beauty is a secret.  No one seems to know.  I walk into a crowded room and the fire alarm and sprinklers go on.

Before I started using squalane I used Baby Oil around the eyes.  At 55 I don't have wrinkles around them.

Hey, Meri!

Where do you get your Squalane? I have heard of it many times and have been wanting to try it but it is so pricey and it seems to be of different quality everywhere. I don't know who to trust as far as websites that sell it.

EDIT: I just found vegan Squalane that does not involve killing sharks and is the same ingredient made from oilves. I am buying that. :)

I wrote a review on Bio Marine squalane.  I have used it for a couple years because my son worked for a medical company and could get it at cost.  When I read about the big ta-doo about the sharks I contacted the company and they gave me a written statement that they only use sharks that are found in the nets of fisherman who fish for Orange Roughy.  The sharks are dead by the time they reach the surface and before cosmetic companies started buying them they were just thrown back into the ocean.  Sometimes half the nets are filled with dead sharks.

I have used "vegan" squalane derived from olives as well.  It seems to act the same.  [My daughter didn't like the squalane as she felt it was too greasy, but, I think it is about the same as baby oil. It absorbs quickly. ]  Alabu carries a 1 ounce container called "Baby Face Moisturizer" that sells for $12.40.

That's a silly thought; I bet they are looking at your glasses.

I use olive oil for everything. I agree with not washing hair daily.

I like to let olive oil sit in my hair for about a half hour once a week and wash it out when finished.

If i have an important event, i will use olive oil about once a week for a month before the event. If it is a quick notice event, use it the day before or the day of. It will cause your hair to be oily at first. It creates a great protectant for your hair, though. It's great to get that extra shine in, too. Make sure to wash throughly. i wash twice when i'm rinsing.

I have some very deep wrinkles and had heard good things about Olay Regenerist.  I have been using it and can tell you it has made a dramatic difference.  It has taken care of the deep lines I have around my chin line.  I would highly recommend this product because it does do what it promises and is worth every penny.

I think you found the Fountain of Youth.  What water are you drinking?

I agree about drinking lots of water... and moisturizers. Then concealer, blush, eyeliner, and sometimes mascara.

I wholeheartedly agree.  My locks are so much healthier now that I wash every other day.  On the weekends, if I'm not doing anything major, I'll even try to stretch it out to 3 days!

Olive oil is a great eye make up remover!!!  also, so I have learned recently..if no olive oil, then use baby shampoo. No tears!!!

Drink water, water, water and if you have puffy under eyes a dab of Preperation H does wonders (buy a new tube for this area...the thought of it being by the other area...not good), but this will help the puffies.  I will then put my moisture stuff on and a bit of lighter foundation under and around the eye.

Prep. H is also great when you have a scab (from falling, tripping etc)...put some one, put a bandaid on over night and you will be amazed...when it's pinkish start putting vitamin E oil on it to prevent scaring.

Been there, did it, tried it and it works!

Good one Mike!  I'll share that with the hubs - he's my Telly and Vin ;)

Mine are pretty simple, as much fresh fruit/veggies as I can eat, I drink 8-10 full glasses of water a day and since I'm fair-skinned, get out of the hot Texas sun after about 10-15 minutes.  One of Patty's posts here also reminded me to use my concealer, which I have not done lately.  I'm 50, so...yeah...concealer will be on my sink table.

Thanks for this topic!
