I see so many advertisements for stretch mark creams, lotions, fancy electronic gadgets to run over them, etc. Is it even possible to minimize stretch marks? They seem like they are permanent. Have you ever found any kind of remedy for them?

The only thing I have found is that time, seems to make them not as visiable. Some people get them, so don't all depends on your skins elasticity. I have them, thank you my lovely Son, and those beautiful Var. Veins from my Angel of my Daughter. I don't know if Mederma could help, I called them to find out the proper way to put that stuff on. They said use a Q-tip and make sure you only put it on the area, not surronding skin. Didn't know that. Laser never tried, I just figured it's something I have to live with. So bye, bye to my itty bitty bikini....lol...Like this JELLO body could wear one anyhow. I guess I just don't let it bother me, what it comes down to who really cares? If someone has a problem with me, well then don't look at me. Pobody is Nerfect. :)

The only thing that seemed to work for me is Vitamin E oil. I used it during my pregnancies and it seemed to work well and its very inexpensive. Other things offer results but don't seem to pan out.

You can possibly ward them off if you keep skin very hydrated (Shea butter works great) as you lose or gain weight but once you get them, stretch marks are usually there for good. They do lighten a lot over time and keeping the area hydrated helps. Scar and stretch mark products can make them less raised and more smooth but I have never heard of any that actually take stretch marks away.

Laser surgery supposedly works or helps but that comes with side effects and problems (as well as expense) of its own.

I have a few stretch marks on my lower belly and a couple on my hips but they are barely visible after all this time (Came from pregnancies.). I hate em but they at least aren't red and raised like they were after I lost the pregnancy weight.

Some people never get any and some get them from even slight fluctuations in weight (usually weight loss will do it). It's hereditary usually so you can only do so much to stop them.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!

I shall hydrate! Thankfully, I don't have red ones anymore either. I would not invest in laser surgery... you would only see mine if I was in a bathing suit, which is hardly ever, and I have never worn a 2 piece, so I was just curious. I guess I'll just look at them as adding character :) War wounds.

I like that Character! Now I have a new way of looking at my body! lol......My body has plenty of character ;~)

It's funny if a guy has a scare, RRRRRR likes it something to be proud of. Women on the other hand shouldn't. Well for what ever reason we have, whether it be weight loss, PROUD!!!  Childbirth, PROUD!!! We all have story behind us. Really it's superficial. That doesn't, and shouldn't make or break us!!

This ol'body of mine has CHARACTER and I'm PROUD of it!!! (plus there is really only one person who sees the whole package in the dark anyhow...LOL)

I like that too. Character. My boobs, low belly, and hips have character from having kids. My belly also has character from having my gallbladder removed. My eyes have character from uhhh...smiling so much? Ehhh...I'll go with that. My face is starting to show character from...life.

I guess it really IS character and each line and each scar or whatever does have a story. i just don't want TOO many stories on my face please. I can handle body stories much better. lol.

PattyTherre, You look beautiful from your picture. I don't think you'll get Character on your face, unless you always have a scrawl look. I met a rude women, need I say she had worked for Dior! Traveled the world! Well!  I had gum in my mouth because one my mouth tends to dry out at work (unable to carry around water, also don't want bad breath from not eating or drinking anything). Anyhow she told me how unattractive I looked because I had gum in my mouth, mind you I wasn't snapping it, or blowing bubbles, it was mainly off to the side. Telling me she use to do what I do in stores. I ignored her ignorance, smiled, said have a nice day. I could of on the other hand said, man those products really don't work. The lines in her face were so deep, it was probably from a bitter attitude. A month or so later I ran into her again, but not by the beauty section, and she was like "HI" I remember you, she was as nice as could be. So if you have any lines around your eyes, they are from smiling! ;~~) Be proud, as I am. As far as the rest of the ol'body of mine, it's still here. Do you know the song...? Do your boobs hang low, can you toss them to and fro....lol... I can tell you are wonderful inside and out. Character!! That's what makes us!

Can I borrow your tummy thingy?  Sounds like it would work perfect on me...lol...I would of tried it. I wore, can you believe this a girdle to my 10 year reunion....I thought for some dumb reason everyone would look the same, skinny and cute. Not! And I was worried. I looked good, but wanted to look better. (compared to the popular ones).

Oh yeah, reunions are wake up calls for sure! I always think I will look so aged and dated and then I see the OTHER people. That is not to say I look better but yikes,. My memories of people and what they look like now are very different. The best part about one reunion was that a girl who was always so beautiful and so darn snotty and mean is now very overweight, looks much older, and is a bitter, lonely person. Maybe you start to show on the outside who you are on the inside as you age. Ha!

So far I'm not very appreciative of the "character" my son's have given me all over.  I'm trying to take some steps with this third one so no more appear and what I have doesn't get any worse.  Literally with my second, my belly looked like I had a spider web of stretch marks, that pretty much remained even after I had lost all the weight.  If there are any more suggestions I am definitely game for them.  My current methods are Vitamin E and Palmers lotion (oh yeah and lots of water).  Keeps the skin soft anyway.

I think it is Palmers that makes Belly Butter in a tub. I used to use it. It is very, very rich and smells great. It is greasy though. It seems to really hydrate and ward off stretch marks before they happen. I used it well after I had them and liked the hydration but didn't see any change in old stretch marks. I'll have to get the name and post it. You may already be using it. I think the thicker and richer the cream or lotion, the better!
