DOES YOUR DOCTOR WEAR A BOW TIE?

Medical experts recommend them since regular ties are highly likely to be contaminated by and further spread germs.  Many pediatricians already wear them so they won't be strangled by their little patients.

So... if you have a favorite male medico, you might try one of the great Beau Ties from www.beautiesLtd.com.   My favorite is the abstract (but not unrecognizeable) stethoscope design found under Career Bow Ties.  Come to think of it, this tie would look cute on a gal, too.

YOUR NAME IT, THEY'VE GOT IT -- in the hundreds!

You'll find other special interest bow ties in categories including Animals & Pets, Birds & Insects, Boating & Nautical, Great Outdoors, Scholarly, Party (check out the Pink Martini), Music, and MilitarySince music is my specialty, I'm fond of the Chopin tie and, yes, the music on it is really Chopin (the "Military" Polonaise, in fact).  Need directions?  Read the How to Tie One On instructions.  Or see the head photo on this article.

I found out about BeauTiesLtd of Vermont from my friend Warren, a spiffy guy with an obscure specialty in the law.  He's also a singer, for which, one might give him (if he doesn't already have it) the Bach tie.  Or, for the holiday season, the red Fanfare tie with it's french horns.  Or maybe the creamy Eggnog tie with its green holly and red berries 'cause Warren's also a verey good host.

THE LITTLE BUSINESS THAT COULD.  IN A BIG WAY!

Bill Kenerson and Deb Venman sent out their first Beau Ties Limited catalog in 1993.  Originally begun in their home, the  Beau Ties business finally demanded larger quarters.  Sewing, shipping, communications, and a small retail area have been located since 1999 in new, Middlebury, Vermont facilities.  Take a virtual tour online!  This is a fascinating site, tightly copyrighted, with varied neck garments of silk, wool and cotton.

How about a tie for Valentine's Day?  Anybody for St. Patrick's Day?  Don't forget a cummerbund for the next formal occasion.  Or an ascot for an Anglophile.

FAMOUS BOW TIE WEARERS

  • Mickey Mouse
  • Karl Marx
  • Donald "Duckie" Mallard (actor Donald McCallum) on TV hit NCIS
  • Winston Churchill
  • Steve Jobs
  • Charlie Chaplin
  • most men wearing tuxedos or dinner jackets

and some for whom, claims Warren St John of The New York Times, "... the bow tie hints at intellectualism, real or feigned, and sometimes suggests technical acumen, perhaps because it is so hard to tie...."

I wonder if the Black Muslims know about these guys? They all wear bow ties. Great review!
