Beak Appetit Cheese Teaser Review

Although I prepare a large batch of a homemade cooked food mix for my three parrots each week, I still like to give them something different a couple of times per week as a little treat.  I've been using Beak Appetit cook and serve mixes for a few years now and have been very happy with them.  On my last "spoil the parrots" shopping spree, I picked up a 13.5 ounce bag of Beak Appetit Cheese Teaser which is one version that I hadn't seen or used before.

Beak Appetit Cheese Teaser is a nutritionally-balanced, low-fat cook and serve mix that is suitable for all types of birds, including macaws, cockatoos, African greys, conues, finches, lories, cockatiels, parakeets, Amazons, Eclectus, etc.  It contains ingredients like basmati rice, whole wheat, millet, lentils, cracked corn, split peas, carrots, peanuts, pecans, hazelnuts, brazil nuts, cashews, kelp, tomatoes, peppers, celery, etc.  It also has many vitamin/mineral supplements.  The packaging suggests feeding 60% Beak Appetit and 40% pellets, seed, fresh fruits/veggies to your parrots.  Personally, my birds get something closer to 80% fresh foods (brown rice, beans, veggies, fruit, pasta, hardboiled eggs, yogurt, etc) and 20% dry mix (Bird Paradise Ultimate Blend). 

It is very easy to prepare Cheese Teaser.  You simply add 1 cup of dry mix and 2 cups of water to a sauce pan, bring to a boil, cover, and then simmer for 20 minutes or until all liquid is absorbed.  Once this product is cooked, you need to let it cool off for awhile before actually serving it to your parrots so they don't burn their mouths.  All three of my parrots really enjoy Cheese Teaser.  One of them will eat just about anything but the other two are more discerning in their tastes.  I was expecting the ekkie to love this stuff, but I was surprised to see just how much the BG Macaw and the Timneh African Grey liked their dinner when they found this product in their bowl on a bed of fresh kale.  Any product that gets those two excited to eat is A-OK in my book.

Overall, I am very happy with Beak Appetit Cheese Teaser.  It is easy to cook, nutritionally-balanced, and something that my parrots really enjoy.  I wouldn't use it as their sole diet, but it is great for when I want to give them something different from their usual meals.  I will definitely be buying Cheese Teaser again!
