Most HelpfulWhen we were ready for our first family dog, we mainly considered the breeds we grew up with as kids; Boxers, German Shepards, Chihuahuas, Shelties. We have a young boy at home, so it was important that the breed be good with small children. I started researching, reading and asking around. I was...

Most HelpfulWe own/breed/hunt and show beagles. They are a great addition to the family/hunter. From chasing small rabbits all the way to deer, a beagle will get the job done.
We rasie our beagles with our family. We hanlde the pups from a few minutes old, all the way until they are in the woods, or in another home.
Great hunter, great family pet. What can go wrong?
We got our beagle from the Humane Society a little bit less than a year ago. Now, I realize that many of the characteristics of our Louie will be very different from other beagles, but we really did luck out. We fully prepared that visiting a dog once or twice at the shelter would not give us a full picture of how the dog would act once we got him/her home, but we went with the recue option, anyway.

Before becming a mother to my sweet son, I was a member of Triangle Beagle Rescue. I helped place over five hundred beagles while a member. I also fostered over fifty beagles in my home - one at a time.
Beagles are smart, stubborn, loveable, food motivated and wonderful with children. One of my beagles is a certified...
read full review »I have had two beagles and can not imagine a better dog. They are sweet as can be and love to entertain. Because they are scent hounds, sometimes their noses lead them into trouble, but they always mean well. They love to bark and howl, but if you can deal with that, it is a lot of fun to listen to. They are gentle with children and other dogs, but do not like cats. They do kill the occasional rabbit or bird, but lots of dogs do that. They truly are wonderful dogs with a lot of spirit. They love to take long naps and love their humans.
I would completely recommend beagles to anyone...
