I have been a contact lens wearer from day one and I have sampled several brands during that time. One that I have tried and liked is Bausch & Lomb 2- week disposable lenses, a comfortable contact lens that requires little or no daily maintenance.
Contact Lens Commentary:
Disposable contacts are a product I have been wearing since they were first introduced. I have never worn glasses (my pride wouldn't allow that) and I started out using extended wear contacts back in the 1980's. Thinking back to all of the hassle, annoyance, and discomfort that I experienced with these non- disposable contacts, I can't imagine why anyone would ever wear them. Why put up with all this stress, when disposable contacts are so worry- free?
With a cost of $15 to $18 per box of six, Bausch & Lomb 2- week lenses will set you back by $135 to $162 if you purchase nine boxes (1- year supply). If your money is a little tight, you can get away with purchasing only 6 boxes, provided that you wear each pair for 3 weeks instead of only 2. This will reduce your cost to only $108. The manufacturer doesn't recommend this, but I have had no problems with stretching the usage out one more week. Provided you use disinfectant solution each day (as opposed to ordinary saline), you should have no problem extended the usage one more week.
Convenience is the main reason to use disposable lenses and Bausch & Lomb scores high in this category. There is no need to use cleaning solution or enzyme. However, it is a very good idea to use disinfectant solution like I mentioned above. If you use ordinary saline, the contacts will develop protein deposits and become uncomfortable in about ten days.
These contact lenses are thin, so they are more susceptible to tearing than extended wear lenses. But, with the price being so low, it shouldn't cause you much stress. There's no reason to sweat over something that costs only $3.00 to replace. However, the thinness also means these contacts are very comfortable to wear. You cannot feel anything on your eyes and they are easily removed and inserted.
If I could change one thing about these lenses, it would be the packaging. I prefer the individual packaging, that Acuvue uses, to this "strip" packaging (The lenses are packaged in strips of three that need to be torn apart). These lenses are a little more difficult to remove from their saline reservoir. There is no tab to pull, like you get with Acuvue. You have to try to grip the strip, and then pull the contact lens case off, which can sometimes be frustrating, particularly for those who have larger than average fingers. It's very easy to accidentally spill the lens from its case.
Bottom Line:
I'm very happy with Bausch & Lomb 2- week lenses. They are every bit as good as Acuvue and other brands, in terms of both comfort and price, so I will likely buy whichever one is the least expensive. I have only noticed a few slight differences among brands and these lenses are as good as any for comfort and cost.
