Was very young when the original series came out. Though a little campy, it was ahead of its time. The techology required to put on such a show just wasn't available. Also TV networks required a lot more shows in a season in those days, and it wasn't easy putting quality work out in such a short time. Don't feel it's really fair to compare the series in quality. In this case it's apples and oranges, and the present series wouldn't have even been considered for television. Everything on TV had to be rated G.
The newer version has succeeded in many ways. They don't need to censor themselves to the extent the old one had to (we know what they really mean by "fracking"). The harder questions can be put out there, and the writers attempt to answer them. It's really great that two of the old characters are being filled by female actresses. The new Starbuck is much wilder than the original, and who would have ever thought of Boomer getting pregnant.
The body count is a little too high, and the humans need more victories. Glad Starbuck is showing a softer side. Commander Adama isn't lovable. It is a fine series, but a little humor is needed.
