I looked up the life span of a Basset and it said it can range from 8-12 years, which was lower than most of the other breeds I looked up. However, some have been known to live longer than 12 years. Some common ailments for the Basset Hound breed are eye problems, weight gain, and back problems. To prevent weight gain, have an active dog as your Basset's companion.
