Always a dog lover, I am fairly new to Basset Hounds, with my first exposure 7 years ago when I met my husband and his Basset Reggie.  I grew up with a Boxer who I was very attached to, and my Basset now is among my list of one of the best dogs to own....

The personality of Bassets is great.  A great...

I'll admit it.  There was a point during puppyhood when I thought, "I CANNOT DO THIS!"  Housebreaking to forever with this breed of dog.  I mean FOREVER!!  But after probably close to six months (maybe more) he finally quit going in the house.  Bassett Hounds are very affectionate dogs, and mine...

We had a Basset we named Beavis.  He was with us for seven years.  I looked up the life span of a Basset and it said it can range from 8-12 years, which was lower than most of the other breeds I looked up.  However, some have been known to live longer than 12 years.  Some common ailments for the Basset Hound breed are eye problems, weight gain, and back problems.  To prevent weight gain, have an active dog as your Basset's companion.  We had a Brittany mix as a companion for our Basset and Beavis got exercise by chasing her around the yard.

Beavis was my husband's best friend.  He loved to...

I love Basset Hounds! They are the sweeties dogs ever! I have owned Bassets for 2 years now. I currently have five. They are really good at tracking wildlife. They very seldom get sick. They love to eat! And the sad eyes make you over feed them sometimes! I ccurrently raise them. I have one female that is pregnant and due the first week of Feb. I always make sure that my Bassets go to good homes and I loke to follow up on them too. The Basset that I have had the longest is gretchin. She is queen of our house! She even has her own steps to get in our bed and sleeps right in the middle!

I have a Basset hound, Sarge. He is one of the best dogs we have ever owned. He is more than just a pet, he is a member of the family. His fur is soft and silky. sarge and my two year old son are best buds. They are always together. All the kids in the neighborhood love to come play with Sarge. He was the easiest dog ever to potty-train. I love his deep booming bark. He is a good watchdog. Strangers fear his bark, if they only Knew he runs from my daughter's hamster! Any family looking for a dog, I would recommend checking out a Basset hound.
