When my wood studio stand broke a few weeks ago, I decided to replace it. Immediately I was considering wood music stands because of the way they look. However, the stands I was looking at were fairly expensive and not all that adjustable. So, I started using my gig tand temporarily in the studio and looked for alternatives.
The features i was looking for were:
- sturdy'
- reasonably priced
- wide range of potential height
- rubber feet or wood feet with floor protectors
- wide, deep table (to hold thick music books, open)
This item seemed to have a nice combination of features and could be delivered for about $31. Another nice extra was that this had a double lip, so that I could put pencils and a small metronome in the lower tray It was also billed as portable, even if the table does not fold.
I ordered this item. It came and I put it together. I was happy with the build quality. I did need to tighted the fastening screws on the table a little bit, but that was no big deal.
This unit has great build features:
- telescopes from 25" to 55" meaning that I can use it easily while practicing, whether sitting or standing
- the table is 19" wide, 13" high and 1 7/8" deep, certainly large enough
- rubber tips on the bottom make for safety on the oak floors in my studio
- very stable, due to a fairly wide tripod base and the heaviness of the metal.
the table is fastened to the stand by slipping the table through a slot on the top of the stand and tightening a screw. The tilt and the height can be adjusted.
I've been using this in my studio during music lessons for a month and it has worked well. I like the height and tilt adjustability and the double lip to hold my pencils.
The things I don't like pertain to the non-folding table. Since the table slides off and on, I can't pick it up by the table. I used to do that before. I've gotten used to picking it up by the stem. Also, with a non folding table, it's not that portable. Sure, the table comes off, but it takes up a lot of space and for me, is not a good option to transport. My K&S Extra Heavy Duty Music Stand does that much better. That's not a big deal, because I didn't buy it for portability. Still, it's listed as a feature.
This is an outstanding stand for a music room or practice room, and I can recommend it highly!
