Barnyard Dance —

In author Sandra Boynton's world, cows play fiddles, pigs twirl, and a wacky assortment of barnyard animals square-dance like pros.  Barnyard Dance is another rollicking good time of a children's board book.

This book is perfect for children up to four years old.  The story doesn't explore any teaching concepts such as opposites, numbers, phonics as some of her other books tackle.   Instead, Barnyard Dance is just a simple, delightful story that strives to do nothing more than entertain its young audience.

For me, the best part of the book is that it is so active.  Animals slide, twirl, scramble, fiddle, and play.  As I read aloud from the story, I often pause and ask my 3-year old grandson to show me how.  It's fun for him--and for me as well--to see if he can imitate all the crazy antics of the Barnyard animals.  We go through and count the animals, or count the number of dances--anything to get even more out of the story.   The rhyming sequence is so musical, that it's easy--and fun!--to make up your own tune as you read the words. What makes this book such a standout is that it fosters so much imagination in a child's mind.

Barnyard Dance is a gem of a board book, with the bright, colorful artwork that makes Boynton's books instant classics.
