Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil —

I recently bought (and returned) a Bare Escentuals Bare Minerals kit from Ulta.com.  I had heard great things about their make-up for a long time, so I finally succumbed and bought the kit when it was so reasonably priced ($15), I couldn't pass it up.

The kit included two different shades of Bare Minerals loose foundation, Mineral Veil and a mini kabuki brush.  I disliked everything in the kit so much, I returned to Ulta.com for a refund.

Bare Escentuals claims that Mineral Veil is supposed to:

  • Give your face a translucent finishing touch over their loose powder foundation
  • Infuse your skin with softness and light
  • Give the beautiful illusion you receive with a soft-focus camera lens

I followed the directions on the Bare Minerals kit and did NOT get good results.  I chalked it up to operator error and tried again several times just in case I was doing it wrong.  Each and every time I applied the make-up, it created a shine and sheen to my face that was not appealing at all.  I don't ever have shiny skin, so it was definitely from the kit.  The Mineral Veil didn't do anything to decrease the shine or give a matteness to my face.  The loose foundation and Mineral Veil also accentuated my pores.  Any product that makes your pores MORE noticeable is a bad product in my book.

Besides the product not doing anything positive for my face, I don't like dealing with loose powder.  It's a pain in the butt and I prefer using pressed powders and foundations.

The Scoop!

I was so dissatisfied with the Bare Minerals foundation and the Mineral Veil that I would never purchase one of their skin care products again.  I might try one of their lip glosses, but that's it!

I don't understand the craze about their products. At least now I can say I tried them and know I don't like them :)

I am one of the few who also has never tried anything from Bare Escentuals. I've seen their commercials and everyone on here seems to love that mineral veil. My best friend uses only these products and she looks beautiful and fresh everyday. But it looks like it totally stunk for you...great review!

It's not an Ulta product, I just bought it at their website. It's kind of how you can buy Bed Bath & Beyond products at their website along with other brands too. I will never use Bare Escentuals again!

Wow! Sounds like you had a terrible experience. I've never used Ulta products unless some of the lipsticks that my SIL gave me are ulta.
