Bare Escentuals Bare Minerals Foundation —

I have always believed that it was best to take care of my skin from the inside first and then use foundations to accent my skin. I have found that most skin problems originate from diet and lifestyle routines, so it does not make sense to me to try to buy products to cover up problems when you can correct problems and then use makeup to enhance.

However, not everyone feels as I do about makeup, so there are different people with different foundation needs.

WHO IS BARE ESCENTUALS FOR?

Bare Escentuals mineral makeup is for the woman who does not wearm much makeup and who does not have serious skin issues. It is for the woman who has normal to dry skin- perhaps just a little oiliness, but for the most part, it is made for those with normal to dry skin.

Bare Escentuals is for the woman who does not like heavy foundation and who wants a quick and easy application method for her foundation.

It is also for the woman who does not have serious skin sensitivities and who enjoys light makeup applications.

WHO IS BARE ESCENTUALS NOT FOR?

Bare Escentuals is NOT for those with very oily skin. It is not for those who have heavy skin problems to cover up such as acne, scarring, and birthmarks that they want to cover up.

Some people have sensitivities to bismuth which makes them itch- especially in hot weather. Make sure you get it from a place that gives refunds if you can.

Some people also have sensitivities to mica which causes itching so again try it at a place that offers refunds in case you can not use it.

WHAT IS BARE ESCENTUALS LIKE?

Bare Escentuals is a lightweight powder which has mica and bismuth oxychloride in it that make is stick to the skin and diffuse the light to cover imperfections. It also has iron oxides in it which give it the color for skin.

It also contains SPF of zinc oxide and titanium dioxide in it for sunscreen.

HOW DO YOU USE IT?

The way that you use this foundation is to take a foundation brush (I prefer MAC 183 NOT the brushes that come with the Bare Escentuals kits).

You put a tiny bit of powder in the lid, turned upside dwwn and you swirl the power up into the brush. Then you swirl the foundation on around the face in all areas you want coverage.

You then use the concealer brush (Bare escentuals concealer brush is the only brush in the kits that I do like) to work up tiny bits of foundation up into the bristles. Then you lightly apply to blemishes and undereye circles.

MY COMMENTS

I have to say that this foundation was something I was not at all interested in. I figured it was a joke because of all of the infomercials on TV about it.

When someoine gave me a whole huge kit of this stuff, I knew I had to try it and amazingly enough- I really love the foundation.

I do not wear makeup daily, however, so I only use it about once or twice a week. I am not sure if I could use it daily without developing problems.

I find that this foundation gives a perfect base for makeup and makes my skin look delightful. I do not have high incidence of blemishes or unevenness, so this is more than adequate.

WHAT I DO NOT LIKE

I do not like the SPF. I can not stand SPF in things and wish they would leave it out of makeup. If I want SPF, then I want the freedom to put it on myself. I do not like SPF at all, and that is why I give this four stars.

I also do not like how this acts under the eyes. The best way for me to apply it is not with the concealer brush, as they instruct, I prefer the MAC 222, which is an eyeshadow blending brush.

If I lightly brush under my eyes with the fluffy blending brush (MAC 222) then I get a much better effect- the powder will not settle in the cracks.

"Skin cancers are the fastest growing type of cancer in the United States. Skin cancer represents the most commonly diagnosed malignancy, surpassing lung, breast, colorectal and prostate cancer. More than 1 million Americans will be diagnosed with skin cancer in 2008.[7]"The most dangerous type of skin cancer is malignant melanoma. This form of skin cancer is causing the major part of all skin cancer fatalities.

courtesy of wikipedia... so you see...SKIN cancers...not just cancers in general...

Hiya! Thanks for taking the time to comment on my review. You are correct, I do not like anything with SPF in it- I reserve it for extreme emergencies only- such as extreme exposure situations. However, I am free to express my perspective on sunscreen, as you are yours. As for other people, each of us has our own responsibility to learn all that we can about health and well being. As for cancer- cancer has roots in diet, immune system, fungi overgrowth and lifestyle much more than being in the sun. I have no worries about cancer- including that involving the skin. I find it interesting that Vitamin D deficiency is currently one of the most publicized *health problems* of late. Sunscreen does not allow for the proper formation of vitamin D via skin...........great chatting with you! ;D

if you don't like SPF ANYTHING, then you must not like anything with titanium dioxide and iron oxides. But I'm sure that you're aware that it's in most makeup and skin care products. And as far as you not wearing sunscreen, I'd keep that little tidbit to yourself. You may want to have brown age spots, wrinkles, and to die of skin cancer, but everyone out there shouldn't be lead to believe it's ok to go with out. I am pretty sure that you are also aware that Skin Cancer is the number one Cancer in the United States and that Melanoma (which is the most severe and dangerous cancer) is the 3rd highest cause of death in the US. I would rethink your feelings on SPF if I were you, unless you have a death wish.
