Barbie and the 12 Dancing Princesses —

My daughters have recently become very interested in Barbie movies and dolls.  I hesitate to get them because right now we are hit or miss with the two we have tried (Barbie Mariposa  was right out of the park and Barbie and The Diamond Castle  was never finished.)  The latest attempt at a Barbie DVD was Barbie and the 12 Dancing Princesses.

In Barbie and the 12 Dancing Princesses Barbie is now Princess Genevieve with 11 sisters and one very mean (think wicked step mother) cousin.  The 12 princesses love to dance and have many different dancing songs they do for different occasions, like their birthday and the princesses have inherited their love of dance from their mother (now deceased and no surprise after 12 children).  The girls remember a dance that their mother taught them, that allows them to enter a wishing world, where all their wishes come true and they use this magical place to avoid the evil cousin who pretends to be there for their own good, but in reality is trying to be declared the new Queen.

My Viewpoint:  I surprisingly enjoyed the DVD Barbie and the 12 Dancing Princesses.  What was best about this movie?  The beautiful brilliant colors and animation, the incorporation of classical music and ballet dance and the emphasis on caring for your family.  But nothing could beat watching my two little girls in their TinkerBell pajama's dancing and twirling, imitating the pirouettes, twirls and other ballet dance moves.  It was delightful seeing them join hands as Barbie and the 12 Dancing Princesses did to dance in circles and later fall upon the ground in laughter (my girls and the dancing princesses)  Maybe we should rename the movie Barbie and the 14 Dancing Princesses.
