i got a BOA visa card with a $700 limit in october of 2007 and quickly maxxed it out (i was 18 and an idiot). i spent the next year and a half making whatever i could afford in payments, making a few late ones when i was unemployed for a couple of months, then found a new, relatively steady part-time job and have not missed or been late on a payment since. in fact, my minimum payments are $15 and i have managed several $50 payments recently.
finally, when i had it payed down to just below $200, i decided it was safe to use my card again. my hours at work had just been cut from 5 days a week to 3 and (until i could pick up some more shifts or find a new, better-paying job) i needed a little bit of help. i tried to buy some gas and *SURPRISE* my card was rejected. when i called and asked why, they said my credit limit had been dropped to 200 and appologized that i hadn't been informed. in short, after a year and a half of work on my part making the card usuable again, without me charging another thing, i was maxxed out again.
after speaking to someone in the credit dept, he said he could see that the only "delinquincy" on my part was during my period of unemployment, but said that even if he could do anything he wouldn't because "it just doesn't sound wise"
having a Bank Of America credit card has never gotten me anything but a headache and i would tell anyone thinking about applying for one to run, don't walk, in the opposite direction.
