Bank of America - Visa Card Review Summary

Bank of America is one of the nation’s largest banks and its Bank of America Visa is one of the most widely held credit cards. Like many other credit cards, Bank of America Visa earns reward points and reviewers like this quality most of all. However, Bank of America Visa also has a high interest rate, charges high fees, and can hike your interest rate at any time for any reason. “Stay Away From Zero Interest Offer” warns one reviewer who saw his interest rate jump from nothing to more than twenty- five percent annually. Because of these reasons, consumers should consider Bank of America Visa carefully before selecting a Credit Card.

We received an automated phone call the Friday before Thanksgiving about suspicious activity on our account. We returned the call to the Fraud Department and went over the statement item by item. There were approximately 25 charges in one day that were not ours. B of A had identified the suspicious...

I'd carried a Bank of America Visa Gold card, an American Express card via Costco, and a Washington Mutual Mastercard Gold card. B of A had and continue to have the highest fees such as late fees, transfer fees, over-limit fees, etc. In addition, I often found mistakes B of A of made on my statement.  Over a period of one calendar year, there were at least 5 different mistakes.  It became too troublesome to capturing those mistakes and following up with B of A to ensure they were corrected. The customer service is rated a C at best.  Therefore, I cancelled my account. Banking should not be... read full review »

My experience with Bankof america, I have been acustomer for thirty years, Iwas using the card for bankinf investment properties, I was charged 3% every time I used the card, sometime I would use it twice a month, sometime totaling 1,500 for that one month I think if you are a value customer , the fees should be lower.

It's a credit card and does the great things a credit card can do. However, the interest rate is way too high and I have never had it go up it just started out that way. They didn't post several payments I made so it's really the bank and not the card that sucks.

Bank of America approves people for credit cards for which they would not be qualified on their own. I applied for a Bank of America Hawaiian Airlines Visa Credit Card at the beginning of 2007. Based on the amount of money that my husband got paid, I was approved for a credit card with a limit of $6,000. I did not even have a job. Shortly thereafter, I got a divorce from my husband and still had a huge credit limit of $6,000 even though I was now making only $10 an hour. I ended up racking the card up unfortunately, being young and naive. The first time that I accidentally missed my payment by... read full review »

My husband and I use our debit card for EVERYTHING. Bank of America's Keep the Change program rounds purchases up to the nearest dollar and drops the change in your savings account. We "saved" about $600 in a year with the program.

Additionally, our debit card gives us one Alaska Airline mile per $2 and our Visa card gives us one Alaska Airline mile per $1. Great way to store up dollars and miles.

The Bank of America Visa Debit Card works semi well for me.  In some ways, it works, and in some ways it does'nt.  I like the fact that I don't always have to carry money around, and still beable if I see something that I like, I can get it right with the card, not even have to worry about writing a check, and I am saving the use of paper as well.  I also like the fact that it has "keep the change" which means that every purchase, it will be rounded to the nearest dollar.  Let's say you buy something for $6.02.  They will take out $7.00 for the item, pay $6.02 for your item and put the remaining...

About five years ago we always used our Discover card for the cash back.  We averaged about $150 a year after charging just about everything we purchased.  We try to travel as much as we can afford on a Social Security budget.  We currently, again, charge everything we buy.  We accumulate tons of points we can use at all Comfort Inn hotels.  We try to go in off seasons as they require fewer points.  Also, we are able to get a very nice suite sometimes for reduced points.  We currently average about 5-7 nights a year and sometimes as many as 14 when they have 1 night for 2 stays.  We always...

After paying my BOFA visa card faithfully for over 3 years my interest rate was arbitrarily raised from 9.9 to  to 25.9 percent.  I have not been late on this or any other card and maintain a FICO score of approximately 700.  However based on my credit report I was advised my interest rate was raised.  As a person that does all my banking online I was not aware of the increase until it was too late.  Since I failed to review the attachment of account changes that was hidden online I am just out of luck.    Having a decent credit rating and paying on time is no protection from a rate increase. ...

Bank of America has been in the spotlight for a few months with the company receiving bail out money and increasing interest rates.

But you can actually come out ahead if you get the right credit card.  Bank of America World Points Credit Card offers bonus points for every retail dollar that you spend.  If you make sure that you pay off the balance each month, who cares about the interest rate.  The advantage is that you can actually redeem for cash after every 2500 points.  These points are good for 5 years, you can save the points for cash, travel, airline tickets, hotel stays and all...

Even though we make our payments on time our credit card company has come up with new and creative ways to make more money off of you. One of my favorites is if the payment is not in by 3:00 pm the account is not credited until the next day. This can make your payment late and they WILL charge you a large late fee. Even if you call and explain there might be a problem, they do not care. You still get the fee. If you happen to fall behind, they make your lifr h***. Harassing phone calls, threatening you with bill collectors. We plan on paying this garbage off when my husband retires and do... read full review »

Bank of America ( Visa Platinum) went to the government for a great big "handout" and then had the nerve to raise my rate significantly.  My account was never deliquent.  I lost my income but; I was still paying on time.  The Big Guy gets an undeserved break and then shafts its customers.  Al Capone was sent to jail for what banks now do to people every day in the small print.  But then we're governed by crooks and thieves who like bankers give themselves a bonus for stepping on public America.  Maybe we'll get smart and put bankers and politicians in Alcatraz together.

too many and too high of fees and interest especially if you fall behind in your payments. They are also not willing to work with you like other banks. My $500 maxed out credit card balance is now at $2500 in less than a year due to being laid off and unable to pay it. They also charge fees for the fees. (i.e. they charge you a late payment fee that puts you over your limit so they charge you a overlimit fee then they charge interest on all of it so they are charging me about $150 a month for a $500 credit card. What is that 350% interest? Thats worse than those payday loan places charge and they... read full review »
