My husband borrowed this series from a co-worker. I was so involved with this series that I would stop everything that I was doing to watch because it would pull me in and wouldn't let me go.
First off, the acting and directing is supurb! They are sneaky and get you involved with the characters before you know you are a goner.
The events were as close as can be when depicting the war and real time events during WWII.
The WWII veterans that give their commentary throughout the episodes would just fill and yet break my heart.
The Disc set is laid out nicely through the series.
Now, I'm going to give you how I felt about the series.
I was speechless. As I stated before, you get sucked into the characters so fast and yet they (at times) are taken away from you so fast it makes your head spin. You are left with this developed character who was just blown to bits in a fox hole from an explosion...right before your eyes. Mouth open and nothing coming out as I stared at the TV. But this series is not to glorify war or the soldiers in it. It is to give you a real life depiction of war and what it does to the people involved, soldier or civilian. Utter shock is what you feel. If you put yourself into the movie, shock is what you will feel. The sorrow comes later, when you hear the true life veterans giving their commentary because that is when you say, "wow, that really did happen."
It makes you appreciate what soldiers of the past did for our country those who are currently fighting today. It also makes you believe that there has to be another way to solve such issues in this world. Life is too precious to be yet another forgotten face. Another coffin covered in an American flag.
