Band-Aid Large Adhesive Pads
Band-Aid Large Adhesive Pads are pads that have the outer band-aid type backing on the on the outside and soft white, almost cotton like pad on the inside. The do not stick to the skin they are basically meant to be placed directly over a wound that is going to be wrapped up with more bandaging. This is to protect the wound, and keep the wrapping from sticking to it. It also helps to seal in any ointment that you may have placed on the wound and helps to keep any germs from getting on to the wound, yet like most Band-Aid products it is slightly flexible and breathable. The padding also helps to keep what every ointment you are using moist enough that it continues to work, it does not rub it off, or fully absorb it. This is a good thing.
The entire patch is a little over 2 inches wide and 4 inches high. Or you could do that the other way around depending on which way you are holding the bandage.
The bandage stays in place fairly well, and keeps a nice cushion like barrier on and around the wound. When it is time to remove the pad, there are no problems at all, it comes right off with out any pulling or discomfort.
Unfortunately these pads only come 10 to a box. They cost around $2.99 per box. 10 pads is not enough when you are dealing with a wound that needs to have its bandaging changed, 2 or 3 times a day. I was really frustrated when Sox had chewed herself up pretty good and I went out and purchased these pads and in just a couple of days I had to go out and by more. They could certainly continue to sell these 10 to a box, but I wish they would offer a more economy type box in addition to that, that contains more per box.
Like all of the Band-Aid products, this pad comes in the sterile paper packaging. There are also two sticky parts that have to come off that protect the bandage as well.
I have used these not only on my dog, but on my children, my husband and myself. When my husband split his finger opened, he used these pads to protect the stitches, and he just lightly put a thin layer of bandaging over the pad so it was flexible enough for him to still type with the wounded finger. He works on computers so it was important for him to still be able to type.
Allergy Alert: We are not a family that has a lot of allergies in fact I can't think of a single thing anyone in my family is allergic to, but I always like to read up on health, beauty, and food products before I do reviews on them. Because I know there are a lot of people who have certain allergies and it is important to let them know when something may be a problem for them. The packaging of the product does contain latex. This can be a problem for some people that have latex allergies.
These pads are pretty good sized so if you have a smaller wound and these are the only pads you have in the house you could cut them to make smaller bandages. Make sure to cut them while still inside the sterile wrapping to help protect against germs.
The pads are much more comfortable than gauze.
Final Thoughts
I really don't have anything bad to say about these except maybe the contents of latex which may bother some people, but if you don't have a problem with latex the Band-Aid Large Adhesive pads are really a good product. In fact if you have a wound that has not yet begun to heal these are pretty much a necessity. They are breathable, they don't stick, the help protect the wound, they keep the ointment moist, they stay in place, they are sanitary, they keep a nice soft barrier between the wound and the bandaging that goes around it. Need I say more?
I wish there were more in a package, or that a larger size was offered. But I guess if you have a wound that requires these you will just have to buy more than one box.
I even used these pads on my dog when she had a wound. They were large enough to cover her wound and did not pull at her fur when it was time to take the pad off.
If you have a wound that is more than just a small cut these pads are nice things to use.
