While it's not really a difficult job to rub sunblock on my children, or I it is however, a slow process and I often worry that I missed a few spots. Regular cream sunblocks can be greasy and take forever to get off my hands. It leaves stains on my magazines and makes water bottles slippery. When I saw Banana Boat Ultra Mist Sport SPF 30 Sunblock at Wal-Mart, I thought it was a great idea. The concept of a mist that I could simply spray on was a great one but unfortunately, after using it, I wasn't very impressed.

About Banana Boat Ultra Mist Sport

This product is advertised as being a non-greasy formula that provides oil-free, SPF 30-rated, broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection from the sun's harmful rays. It has a spray applicator that provides fast and even coverage. It comes in a 6 oz. aluminum can and costs around $12.

My Experience

The first time I used this product, I noticed that the push button on the top was a bit stiff. I had to hold the can in my left hand and use my right thumb to push it down. At that point I was able to get a nice strong even mist out of the can. I had to be careful because if I held the can too close I ended up spraying way too much on. It did cover a large area of the body though. Once the spray was applied, it felt a little slippery on my body until I rubbed it into my skin really well. So much for the convenience of a spray sunblock. It did seem to stay on pretty good though but I made sure to reapply it after my kids and I used our towels just to be sure. At first, the sunblock had a strong chemical scent and seemed to make its way to our noses faster because of the mist from the aerosol can. After about ten minutes, the scent goes away enough that it's not as noticeable.

My Final Viewpoint

In my opinion, Banana Boat Ultra Mist Sport SPF 30 Sunblock is overpriced and overrated. It runs out fast and is actually quite difficult to apply because of the container. I haven't purchased this particular sunblock since and don't really recommend it. I am only going with a 2 star rating on this one. I am sticking with Sea & Ski All Day Sport Sunblock.

LaurieM... Thanks for this review on Banana Boat Ultra Mist Sport SPF 30 Sunblock. This is an interesting review to say the least. I have tried this brand and several others, finding them to be not at all as great as all the hullabaloo. I use Neutrogena sunblock only! It's works as good as it gets and its very gentle and safe for sensitive skin. I won't use anything else. You certainly wrote a great review on this product my friend. Good job!

I like the idea of a spray sunblock but they usually need to be rubbed in anyway as you said. I don't like Banana Boat sun products. They stink and the kids still burn with the stuff on.

I use the 50 also, but honestly haven't found a difference between the store brand and banana boat -- except the price!

I am the odd man out here it seems, I used the spf 50 and it sprayed easy and worked great for me. I got no sunburn even riding in the sun all day, so it got my approval real quick...;)

I like this product a little more than you do, but agree that it isn't as ''user friendly'' as expected. There's plenty of others to pick from!
