I miss the sneakers I sued to wear as a kid - red "tennies", with litte or no padding. Comfy, durable, reliable, with real rubber soles - not some vinyl composite. They were usally Keds.
Last week I went sneaker shopping. I didn't want sneakers that were nedorsed by some famous basketball player, or sneakers that I could hook up to my Ipod (they actually have those, you know), or sneakers that promised to make me jump higher than anyone else. I just wanted good pair of sneakers that fit, felt good, and looked good. I wound up buying a brand I'd never heard of - Ball Band.
As far as I can tell by looking online, Ball Band mainly makes men's dress shoes...sort of creepy dress shoes, if you want to know the truth. Shoes that looklike they're made of rawhide. Yikes! The Ball band sneakers I got, though, are beautiful. Red, textured leather low top basketball sneakers. Like the old Converse Chuck's, but a little fancier. Thick rubber soles, nice, cotton laces. A great color. They look great and they feel great. And I only paid $20 for them!!! I've been wearing them non-stop since then, and people keep stopping me to ask where I found such cool, retro-looking sneakers. I may have to go back and buy a second pair - at that price, I can't help myself.
